I think the groundtroops are positioning themselves for when shock and awe starts, but just don't know.

Iraqi leader's rejection of ultimatum is called 'final mistake' By Elisabeth Bumiller New York Times
[snip] Although Bush has given Saddam until 7 tonight St. Louis time to leave Iraq or face war, Pentagon officials said the wording of the president's warning Monday was intended to leave open the option of military action before then in the event Saddam rejected the deadline.
White House spokesman Ari Fleischer would not rule out military action before the deadline.
"Saddam Hussein has to figure out what this means," he said.
Pentagon officials said that the decision of when to attack would take into account the weather and any 11th-hour attacks by Baghdad on allied forces or Israel....[snip]

LOL! He's probably holed up with Saddam. Your guess is a good as mine the Iraqi dictator had hostages rounded up beforehand to make sure his senior ministers didn't get any funny notions of defection.

But Petronski does he believe Iraq will attack Israel?I have no way to know. But if I were him, I would have arranged my own 'underground railroad' for just this moment.

VERY interesting. Really didn't think we'd go in early or before deadline expired. Then it will only depend on the weather and I know the windstorm was intense last night; step-son said all his unit's tents blew down last night. He couldn't say what the weather was expected to be today.

DEBKAfiles military sources report persistent rumor that two leading powerbrokers of Saddams regime have fled Baghdad: deputy prime minister Tareq Aziz, who is thought to be hiding in Kurdistan in northern Iraq, and vice president Taha Yassin Ramadan who has not been seen for three days.

Aziz has no desire to be hit by chemical/biological arms that Iraq doesn't possess.

Tony Snow had some interesting comments regarding Aziz Monday. He said he's a guy that's probably scared to death of Hussein, but is so connected to him that he has nowhere to go now.
