risked "serious consequences".....
yeah like us finding out how long the French have been in bed with Iraq.
Ollie North on Foxnews just said the rumor going around in the Middle East is that French diplomats and inteligence agents are assisting in the destruction of [I assume] Iraqi documents showing French complicity in helping Iraq further its WMD programs.

Serious consequences, like what? Like they might be even MORE obnoxious and arrogant in their behavior than they already have been?
I am noticing that President Bush is being blamed for this "failure of diplomacy" and NO ONE in the leftist media or on the democrat side even mentions the French. I am beginning to think the whole thing was coordinated by Bill Clinton, honest to God.

Well, there you go.
If only we had listened to wiser voices.
Parmentier said the White House had been too quick to reject a compromise offered by Chile, and had alienated many countries by its opposition to the Kyoto treaty and the International Criminal Court.

I think this comment was reported in this morning's Washington Post and was made yesterday.

War is serious business. The consequences of not acting are equally serious.
Are we willing to continue the status quo in the ME with continued ferment, entrenched dictators, weapons development and trading between unstable countries, i.e., North Korea, Iran and Iraq, Syria and Egypt? Are we willing to continue the Israel/Palestine stalemate. Nope. This breaks the logjam. Iraq is the key log and must be loosed.
No one wants conflict. I prefer peace myself. The consequences of not acting now will be magnified a hundred fold in a few years. It isn't going to be easy. At times it will be disheartening, but this is the only way to bring this area into the present. Why is an entire region living in deplorable 17th century conditions preferred to a region that after conflict is brought into the present? We cannot allow fear of the unknown to dissuade us. Humans prefer the familiar at all costs to protect against fear. Sometimes, we just have to be brave enough to take steps against that fear.
