Actually, deindustrializaton hit Paterson HARD after WWII and the area was declining before the Muslims started to arrive.

New Jersey and Connecticut are very similar in the fact that both are home to some of the wealthiest suburban communities in the nation, along with some of the worst examples of urban blight. Nevertheless, from what I have seen of Paterson, it seems considerably worse off than my father's neighborhood in Newark (although much of West and South Newark is VERY scary) or my mom's hometown of Jersey City. Still, at least they still have the falls!

Paterson is Newark without any redeeming features.
