Sounds like the young private just "volunteered" to be point when we move into Baghdad.
No doubt. This guy is not so smart right before a battle is he.

Sounds like he came up with a great idea aimed at getting a fast transfer to some safer spot.
I am sure that he is already being "processed towards the rear".
Just like the pizza I had for dinner last night.

If I were him, I wouldn't be worried about the promotion board. This fool will be lucky if he doesn't get court-martialed. If I were him, I wouldn't worry about a court martial. I'd worry about surviving the next week.

Probably from California.Hey! If you look at the Red/Blue map of United States, most of the counties in the state voted for Bush. It so happens that most of the people live in the coastal cities are also very liberal.
You are putting salt in the wounds of all the conservatives that cannot overcome the highly populated but few liberal cities like San Francisco and L.A..
Be nice to us because one day, the Reagan conservatives will rise again. Gray Davis is gonna ruin California for the Democrats in the years to come with his fiscal mismanagment. :)

Aren't the press forbidden from stating the full name of a soldier. Instead, are they supposed to just say Private Bob, Captain Joe, etc.
All those full names listed above, including this now infamous "Pte Gareth Stewart" sounds suspicious to me.
Forgive my bad memory but is the Daily Telegraph considered to be on the side of good or is it a member of the dark side?

What the hell is this person doing in the army?

"While I was walking past one of the mobile mortar units, Pte Gareth Stewart, 20, called me over. He said that he wanted the world to know that not all in the US army support an attack."I have no beef with the Iraqis," he said.
"This is Bush's war and I am not alone in thinking that."
So what does a Pte get busted down to? Moron? This guy should be preparing for a fight with Sonny Liston....

"You will see thousands of vehicles attacking. You will see hundreds of aircraft overhead on route to destroy targets in Iraq. You will see Tomahawk missiles flying over us.
"And you will be part of that."
Anybody have "St. Crispin's Day" handy?

I think we just found the perfect man for the chemical warhead cleanup detail.

Just then Private Gareth Stewart's sargeant advised him he would be walking in front of the column when it transited the minefield.
We salute Human Shield Gareth Stewart and his Saddam-ass-kissing Army of One.

If I were him, I wouldn't worry about a court martial. I'd worry about surviving the next week He may not survive the night after some much needed NCO wall to wall counselling. He's probably wishing he had a beef with the Iraqis after all since it's better than the a$$ kicking he's about to get. My guess is this guy's a shirker. There's always one or two in every unit. If he's got enough time on his hands to not only rationalize this crap but to track down a reporter to whine about it, then he isn't doing the critical job at hand, which is preparing for battle. I'm willing to bet his squad mates have him figured out and will deal with him (again, probably) in their own special way.

I wonder if Private Stewart was one of those folks who joined the Army for the college money and the "job training", and never thought he'd actually have to, y'know, like, SHOOT SOMEBODY?
Get him off the front line. I'm sure there's a lot of latrines that need to be cleaned right now. With a toothbrush. With a reeeeeallly short-handled toothbrush. Strapped to his head.

Pte(PVT) Gareth Stewart - in a very short amount of time you will have a beef with the Iraqi army. Some of them will try to kill you and your fellow soldiers. When you hear the crack of enemy gunfire over your head, when you see the first squirt of blood from what was the face of your squad leader, when you feel that white hot pain of oxygen leaving your chest through a newly made 7mm hole - then I hope that God gives you the time to rethink your stupid statement. Because if you make it back to the States in one piece, and a single member of your unit suffers so much as a sprained ankle because of your disloyalty to our nation, our cause, and your Commander-in-Chief, then there is no where you can hide from the military justice that will swiftly find your sorry punk a$$.
To the brave soldiers of this unit, who are doing their duty and obeying the lawful orders of their commaders, I salute you. I pray that God will grant you victory and will return you home safely.
