I suspect the Iraqis will be terrified into immediate surrender.

"Why am I here?" says Capt Bill Young producing a photograph of his four-month-old son. "I am doing this for him." And Capt. Bill Young you do this for me, and every other person who can live in a free, democratic world. God Bless you.

While I was walking past one of the mobile mortar units, Pte Gareth Stewart, 20, called me over. He said that he wanted the world to know that not all in the US army support an attack.
"I have no beef with the Iraqis," he said.
"This is Bush's war and I am not alone in thinking that."
Good luck at the promotion board.

Obviously not a "career man."

This little stupid Shiite is a Private for a reason. Probably from California. I have a feeling that he's going to be in for a little KP duty when his superiors see this one. If I were fighting in his unit I wouldn't trust this guy for anything.
To: Happygal
Yes, I just saw this as reinforcing the idea that the Army is a meritocracy. The Captain knows why he's there, the Private hasn't a clue.

If I were him, I wouldn't be worried about the promotion board. This fool will be lucky if he doesn't get court-martialed.

Whatever you do in life never do anything that would provoke any of the US or British special forces or Mossad to be after your a$$.
There are quicker and far less painful forms of suicide but none more certain.

Capt. Bill Young gets it.

Pte Gareth Stewart, whom it must suck being, does not get it.

"...his staff sergeant ran up behind me and pressed something into my hand..." I suspect that the staff sergeant will be pressing his boot into the private's ass.

Sounds like the young private just "volunteered" to be point when we move into Baghdad.

Damn, not a thing to say where your buddies can find out about it just before a battle. If you survive the battle then you can worry about the officer's response to your worldwide comments.

I imagine this guy has now been informed that his unit does not trust him and someone has explained the virtue of desertion over "friendly fire". And no, I am not joking.
