Interesting! I guess I was thinking it would be more like Thursday...giving the UN inspectors lots of time to leave...but I have no basis for believing that.

It will likely start around 1800 PM, or midnight Baghdad time. I could buy Tuesday night, but I here that Wednesday is more likely.

"Can somone do better?" Being that the Air Force is takeing our hard targets and there are Special Forces in Coutry I predict the war will start about February 5th 2003.

Do you happen to know anybody in New Orleans that would allow you to profer an opinion as to which teams will be in the Final Four?

What if Sadamn won't let them leave? Then the UN will pass one resolution every day 'til Saddam lets the UN inspectors leave. (Boy will the UN show Saddam who's the boss!)

He will probably begin the war at such a time that the strikes can be underway before he addresses the nation. He won't ask for airtime until the last second, in order to preserve the surprise.
By the time he's done with his speech, half of the Iraqi forces will have surrenderred.

I was thinking tomorrow night would be as good a time as any. It would preserve surprise, since Saddam won't be expecting it until after the President has spoken. He can come on after it has begun, and tell us that it is going on, and how he had to wait til it had begun to protect the troops.

I'm thinking Thursday too. There has to be time for all to get out that wants to. Plus that helps our troops and the planners get the last details done.
To: wattsup
The war has already started. Or, if you prefer, the attack by US forces has already started. The game is to see how long the US can bleed the Iraqis before they get the hint and start defending themselves. Then, when they do, it will be declared an initiation of aggression and justification for the US to begin the Shock-n-Awe phase of attack on civilian infrastructure.
To: wattsup
GWB will give the UN one last chance or give Saddam a ultimatum tomorrow. If he doesn't follow instructions I'm guessing by wednesday night/early morning thursday Iraq time there will be an announcement that the liberation of Iraq has started.
And I hope it will be swift and bloodless as possible.

I would also like to have the crystal ball of who will be in the Final Four before I fill out my brackets.

Saddam won't be expecting it until after the President has spoken. Desert Storm started days before GHW Bush announced it. Saddam isn't so stupid as to think the President has to announce the war before it starts.
To: wattsup
I took Bush at his word. He said TODAY is last day for negociations. I was betting that at 12:01am Azores time, the bombing, et al. would begin.
I like the comment that it started Feb. 5.
To: Jolly Rodgers
Tomorrow night Iraq time and Bush will announce it tomorrow afternoon after Bagdad has disapeared!
