RE : Flag Signing

Short & Sweet - the only way our flag is dishonored is by the way it is treated. Signing a US flag to send to President Bush to show him that real Americans support him and our troops and believe that he is taking the right steps in a war against terror and tyranny is all right and hard fought by the leftists among us - look for the secret sign (D-State!

Well, still not "quite home" from Valley forge.. but I am "FRuising" thru all of your notes/pictures. It was a wonderful rally - thank all of you for your hard work ! & nice to be in shorts & tank top here rather than the 5 layers I had in Cleveland. I will be home in Cleveland today & then will eventually look at the pix I took w / two digital cameras. & would love to share my pictures with you. At least some of them ( I took about 700 at valley forge & 500 at cleveland). I don't know the process to post them Will try to figure it out. my pictures are large files.. 500-700KB. Know I will have to reduce etc. I and the cameras were in a mud hole of sorts & my dog was pretty afraid of the noise/crowd & did more jumping on me (with mud!) so hopefully the lens was not a mud smudge. I am so glad I found this website on Saturday. and so glad I made the trip alone! Nice to have met some of you.

WOW, Glenn Beck is on now, and he is talking about a woman who drove from WYOMING because she said she had to stand in Valley Forge.

I got a free copy of the Courier-Post (I'd never pay for it) this morning. Front page coverage with color picture of Valley Forge rally. Unfortunately, the written article right next to it, on the front page no less, is of the the massive 75 person strong peace rally in Moorestown. LOL

FReepers (well, Real FReepers) are already FRiends even if they naven't met each other yet. When they finally meet, that just seals the deal!

It sure did.

The Rally made the Front page of the Local Times Herald Newspaper also

http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=7394932&BRD=1672&PAG=461&dept_id=33380&rfi=6

SCHUYLKILL - As the nation braces for the ever-increasing possibility of war with Iraq, thousands gathered Sunday at the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge in support of America's armed forces.

People of all ages, races and nationalities came together at the local chapter of the national organization, which is dedicated to promoting good citizenship and patriotism. The official police count was 6,000 people, but Freedoms Foundation president and CEO Aaron Siegel said parking constraints on the property kept the numbers down. Hundreds of cars, along with buses donated by local coach services, clogged Route 23, slowing traffic to a crawl as pedestrians, many carrying American flags and homemade signs, walked along the sides of the road.

There were reports that many of the buses eventually stopped picking up passengers, leaving thousands more without transportation to the site. The rally came the day before President Bush's deadline for Saddam Hussein to disarm.

However, the rally's organizers were quick to point out that the event was held to honor the men and women in the military and not as a call to war.

The nationwide "Rallies for America" are the creation of nationally syndicated radio talk show host Glenn Beck, heard in the Philadelphia market through his flagship station, The Big Talker 1210 AM WPHT.

Becoming emotional and teary eyed at times, Beck told the crowd he decided to hold the rallies because he "believes in the Norman Rockwell (version of) America." After blasting the media for not giving the rallies as much press as anti-war demonstrations, Beck assured the crowd their message of support would be heard.

"America may not see this crowd," he said. "But I promise you our troops will hear your voice today."

Similar rallies in cities including Houston, Cleveland and San Antonio have drawn as many as ten thousand people. Touching on several issues including the controversy over the Pledge of Allegiance wording and the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Beck said it was time for America to take action.

"God didn't forsake us, he awakened us," he said. "Now we're awake, some of us want to go back to sleep. ... Don't let them."

Although the rally was billed as non-political, a few local politicians were in attendance, including freshman U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach, R-6th Dist., and state Sen. Constance Williams, D-17 Dist.

Sara Toner, a first-year law student at Temple University, was one of a group of about 10 students who attended the rally from the law school.

"It's not that we're pro-war, if we don't act in self-preservation, something like 9/11 can happen again," said the East Norriton resident. "I think it's a shame the way the diplomacy has gone down. If we can't get them (the United Nations) to act with us, we're going to have to go it alone."

Celebrity bashing was the order of the day with Michael Smerconish, master of ceremonies and radio personality, berating many of those in Hollywood who have publicly expressed anti-war or anti-Bush sentiments. France, which has been an outspoken opponent of a pre-emptive strike by the United States, did not get much better treatment from Smerconish.

Whatever your stance on the possible conflict, Siegel urged the crowd not to lose sight of the troops poised to go into battle.

"This is to send a message of support to the men and women in uniform, that no matter what decision is made by the commander in chief, our president, we stand by our armed forces," Siegel said.

The warm temperatures and sunny skies drove many rally attendees to the refreshment stands, where cold drinks, hamburgers and "Freedom Fries" were served. Despite the large crowd, the event was peaceful and there were no counter-demonstrations.

Thanks for the info and pictures. It really was an uplifting experience.

Abner, I'd LOVE to see an aerial photo taken at @2:00. That would tell a story in itself.

I, too, was very upset at seeing the picture of people writing on the flag. Regulations regarding the flag are very clear: how to display it, how to honor it, how to keep it, how to destroy it, and what you are NOT allowed to do with it. I feel very bad about this situation and sentiments of "don't rain on our parade" or "the rules are too strict" are also very troubling to me.

Hey guys.. I just found this in my archive. Very fitting tribute about a Valley Forge Soldier!! Enjoy!! Vets
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want you to close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at
Valley Forge, as he holds his musket in his bloody hands.
He stands barefoot in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from
months of battle and emotionally scarred from the eternity
away from his family surrounded by nothing but death and carnage of war.
He stands tough, with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He
looks at us now in anger and disgust and tells us this...
I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now your
children graduate too illiterate to read it.
I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you
stay at home because it rains.
I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech and you
remain silent on critical issues, because it might be bad for
business.
I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has
stolen democracy from the people.
It's the soldier not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the
press.
It's the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.
It's the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is
draped with the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag!!!
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they
protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they
perform for us in our time of need. Amen."
Prayer Wheel:
When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our
U.S. ground troops in Afghanistan, and the ones facing
deployment to Iraq
at this very moment - AND all over this world.
This can be very powerful.... Just send
this to all the people in your address book.
Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Prayer is the very best
one...
I'm uncomfortable with that too. Defacing the flag is disrespectful of it. I'm sure it was done with good intentions, but it is still defacing.
A couple of years ago, Larry Elder (the great radio guy) autographed flags at Angels Stadium in Anaheim. Gloria Allred really gave him a ration of sheeite about it, and Larry eventually admitted that this is improper.
I agree friend.
I might add that the people who posted this thread and organized (I think??) the rally, have written to me in private..and are very apologetic. They never meant any disrespect. Quite the opposite. And I am in NO WAY upset with them.. quite the opposite!! I'm proud as heck of them!!
They just didn't know, and were into the moment!!
As to those who think my pointing it out was nit picky or not a big deal, or point out that US stamps have pictures of the Flag.. I will say that those are just PICTURES. This was an actual Flag!!
It was not intentional disrespect. Thats important to remember. It was just a lack of knowledge. This rally was AWESOME!!! The intention was honorable!! Really only a couple responses were ignorant to the facts regarding Flag etiquette.
As to those who say it is no big deal.. well, I say that kind of thinking is what got us to the point where the Pledge of Allegiance is under attack. It is one thing to carry a banner, a PICTURE of the Flag.. but when it actually IS a Flag, we need to treat it with the respect due the people whose lives have been sacrificed for this country. I agree with you.
I was simply informing people who probably didn't know. Heck, I probably wouldn't have known if I hadn't served in the military. They don't teach it in school!
Every soldier who has ever died for this country, has been draped in our Flag. For that reason alone it deserves the dignity and respect that is traditional for it.
Again, I hold no ill will for the people who with good intentions signed the flag. In fact, I hold deep respect for them, because this was an AWESOME rally!!!
I wish we could have been there!!!
FRegards, Vets
Agree. These folks are wonderful, they didn't mean to deface it.. and I know that.
As to those who think it is just "nit picking".. well, we must strongly disagree.
BUMP for the RALLY AT VALLEY FORGE!!! It was so awesome!!! I hope we can do the same at Sacramento this weekend!!
Just a thought - to those who think it's fine to write notes of encourgement on a flag for Pres. Bush - Would it be just as good for the other side to write their sentiments on a flag and send it to him ?
