PATRIOTS RALLY FOR AMERICA V: Liberty Weekend in DC March 23
The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all patriotic Americans, including Freepers and lurkers in good standing, to join us at the east front steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC Sunday, March 23, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to Rally for America.
This rally is organized by the DC Chapter of Free Republic as a part of the Free Republic community and is held in conjunction with Free Republic Network's rallies nationwide next weekend.
We will be making a patriotic moral stand against the marchers' anti-Americanism and willful silence about the barbaric, terrorist regime of Saddam Hussein.
We will also be sending a message of support to our men and women in uniform fighting the war on terrorism overseas and on the home-front.
Bring your American flags and show our troops -- including the many active duty military that may be hard at work at the Pentagon and other places in our immediate community -- that we support and respect their hard work.
When: Sunday, March 23rd, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Lincoln Memorial, the foot of the east steps (facing the reflecting pool and monument)
Directions: Closest Metro stop is Foggy Bottom on the orange line. Detailed driving directions for people coming from out of town will be posted below in this thread.
Rules: We have obtained the proper permits for this peaceful rally and we do not expect any counterprotests. As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
Bring: American and Gadsden flags (large and small), along with signs bearing messages supporting our troops, President Bush, America and the war on terror.
Weather: Too soon to tell, but it's been beautiful here recently. Mostly sunny, temps in the low 60s, this weekend. Cherry Blossom Festival will be upon us next weekend, although the trees may not yet be in full bloom.
If you're coming from out of town, send any message/question you have to our out-of-town contact guide for this rally (that would be me, FreeTheHostages).
We had a great rally this last weekend and gots lots of national news broadcasts to our beloved troops that we support them. Let's do it again! Do it for the Troops!

Wow, so soon after our last rally, huh? Don't put away those American flags just yet! I just had to get this announcement up. When the cat's away (attending today's Philly rally), the mice will play.

This is a great location for a rally. Parking is available around the Mall, but Metro is best. BTW, Foggy Bottom Metro station is served by the Blue and Orange lines. For more info about public transportation,

Thanks, Kristinn. You beat me to it. (I was drafting a Freepmail to a certain someone pleading for him to do us a nice eagle graphic for our own rally -- I had to borrow the Liberty Weekend one but I'd love to have our own Patriots Rally V.

Thank you for your work and help on this and everything else.

Thanks for posting the announcement for Patriots Rally for America V (and for everything else you do even when you are not feeling well).
Let's get as many people as we can out to support our troops, President Bush and this great country we all love and make the weekend of March 22-23 a huge RALLY FOR AMERICA.

Lincoln Memorial itself will have inspirational guidance on our national situation.
We can succeed only by concert. It is not "can any of us imagine better?" but, "can we all do better?" The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occassion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. . . . Fellow-citizens, we cannot escape history. . . . The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation.
-- Abraham Lincoln, December 1, 1862 Message to Congress

Good luck and THANK YOU DC.

My Heart and Soul will be with you guys and gals. But my body will be flying out on JetBlue to link up with a cruise ship. Maybe I can rally up the cruise ship people and have a FReepers rally on the ship Monday. I'll be handing out Bush2004 stickers at least.

ROFL! W04man, you remind me *so much* of my Dad, who also had not retired "quietly." :) And you didn't need to tell us you'd be handing out Bush2004 stickers on the cruise: we already *knew* that! :)

Directions from out of town
By car: Interstates 66 and 395 provide access to the Mall from the south. Interstate 495, New York Avenue, Rock Creek Parkway, George Washington Memorial Parkway, and the Cabin John Parkway provide access from the North. Interstate 66, Route 50 and 29 provide access from the West. Routes 50, 1, and 4 provide access from the East. You may want to park in a commercial parking garage north of the mall and then take a lovely walk along the national mall to the west to get to the Lincoln memorial.
Map of site: This pdf map will let you zoom in to see the environs around the Lincoln memorial, which is the center (just to the left and lower) of the map, near the Potomac River. http://www.nps.gov/linc/ppmaps/namamap1.pdf
By metro: You may want to park elsewhere and then just take the Metro to the Foggy Bottom stop(orange and blue line). Then walk south about 6 blocks -- you'll go past the Vietnam memorial on the way to the Lincoln memorial if you proceed south on 22nd street or thereabouts.
The Lincoln Memorial is a lovely place for a Support Our Troops rally.
It is a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln and the nation he fought to preserve during the Civil War (1861-1865).
The Lincoln Memorial was built to resemble a Greek temple. It has 36 Doric columns, one for each state at the time of Lincolns death. A sculpture by Daniel Chester French of a seated Lincoln is in the center of the memorial chamber.
Inscribed on the south wall of the monument is the Gettysburg Address. Above it is a mural painted by Jules Guerin depicting the angel of truth freeing a slave. Guerin also painted the unity of North and South mural on the north wall. Etched into the north wall below the mural is Lincolns second inaugural speech.
It will be open during the rally, absent some security precaution in the event of war. It's normal hours are 8 a.m. to midnight. It is located on 23rd Street, NW, just against the Potomac River. Its facilities include exhibits, a bookstore, restrooms, and concessions where you'll be able to get things like water, hot dogs, and ice cream. This is a family friendly venue.

Maybe I can find someone from here in Woodbridge to take my signs and some stickers down to the Rally on Mar 23. I know we have some FReepers and Lurkers here. Please contact me.

I will be in Richmond next Sunday. Some members of our Church want to go. I am making up a sign with this on the top of it.
God Bless the USA!
It will look something like that.

I assume from our website you have a list of email people that normally you would set about notifying. We've got a lot of new contacts recently. Would it be a fair statement that we should get together a committee of 3 or 4 and have a set of administrative tasks assigned to so that the administrative work doesn't fall just to you or me? I volunteer for membership.
