I've been reading so much about this, so much of "the war starts next week and then it doesn't'" etc. We professional evaluations of all this information overload. So please contribute, explain your analysis and cite your sources (generally, doesn't have to library notation stuff).

TIA - ARCADIA

My prediction is that after some early, but light, military action, Saddam Hussein is going to flee into exile.

Bush will give Saddam one last chance to disarm. Then the war will start unless Saddam disarms. Then bush will give him one last chance to disarm.

I don't think there will be any one time you can say the war has "started." The big time will be when the "shock and awe" begins--if we do go in heavy with air power, it will be all at once, followed by the ground troops. We've been slowly escalating the amount of air power we've put on Iraq, but so far it's been light--when we go in heavy, it will be all at once. The war has already started: some of our boys and girls are already on the ground in Iraq and we've been bombing their air defense sites for months.

Also, I think Bush has a few surprises in store for us and Saddam. We'll see how things turn out.

I was predicting March 3, the dark of the new moon.

Then we got bogged down in the UN.

Now I don't know what to think.

XM is dead-on. The war has already started. It'll just escalate. The more real this gets, the greater the likelihood that Hussein will get a bullet in the back. We want a slow escalation. If we just start blowing things up, the inner circle can't plan the coup. They are just scared we won't go through with it. We are making it clear that we most definitely will.

Good point.

Lemme know when the "inspectors" leave...then I can give you a better guess.

On Brit's show with Tony subbing, all three guests unequivocally said the end of next week, for what that's worth.

Yes, the war, as such, has started. It was reported earlier in the week the military thought they'd taken out the majority of the stationary air force in Iraq. When the real Shock and Awe starts, it will likely be this week. The troops have opened their chemical gear, which is only effective for 45 days.

Azores is close to Spain, a co-sponsor of the SC resolution. Portugal is an ally on the war, too. Azores also has ties to the UK. It's in that region as a favor to Blair. He's been criticized as a lapdog of Bush. Now it's Bush who is the lapdog-- crossing the Atlantic to see his master. The only one who this isn't really designed to help is Bush. He could give a sh!t about it, but he wants to thank his allies and this is a very easy way to do it. He'll also let Blair speak to the a country of the willing first-- Tuesday morning. Bush will address us later-- probably Tuesday night, but not necessarily.

Let's hope so!

Well that answered why they're having a meeting in the Azores, probably a bone thrown to Blair and the Spanish PM.

I agree with number ten but at the rate we are going we will have to ratchet up the pressure a whole lot before anyone inside the power structure decides it's time to take any action.

Think it is time for some kind of a sign that we have given up on the UN ... they are Saddam's protection at this time. Once they've been set aside his guards and cronies will question the value of a glorious and near certain death.
