AP: FBI Illegally Seized Ramzi Yousef Documents From OKC Reporter's Mail
Associated Press ^ | 3/13/2003 | Associated Press

Posted on 03/14/2003 7:57:18 AM PST by JohnBerger

The FBI illegally seized a package sent between two Associated Press reporters working on an investigative series about the Oklahoma City bombing. The package contained documents related to Ramzi Yousef's al Qaeda cell in Manila, according to the Associated Press.

The package contained a laboratory report on items seized from a Manila apartment where Yousef and his conspirators, including Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, plotted a September 11-style attack on America. The package was part of reporter John Solomon's investigative series on possible warnings given to the U.S. about a terrorist attack sponsored by Islamic militants just prior to the Oklahoma City bombing. The FBI told AP the package "contained sensitive information that should not be made public."

According to research published on this site and elsewhere, and extensive courtroom documentation, Terry Nichols traveled to the Cebu, the Philippines, in November 1994, on a 60-day visa that expired on Jan. 21, 1995, the exact date Yousef was planning to launch Project Bojinka, a series of attacks on U.S. bound aircraft. According to "The New Jackals" by Simon Reeve and other verified information revealed during various criminal trials, Ramzi Yousef made at least one and possibly several trips to Cebu during Nichols' visit.

One phase of Bojinka involved the simultaneous detonation of a series of bombs over the Pacific, while a second phase would have had suicide pilot(s) crash commercial aircraft into U.S. landmark(s) such as the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and CIA headquarters. The plot was foiled after an accidental fire exposed the conspiracy.

No, we all know that the culprits of the OKC bombing were Rush Limbaugh and White Males who wear camouflage and own guns.

And it looks like at least some of those White Males with camouflage and guns responsible for the bombing wore FBI badges as well.

Also, I neglected to mention that Reeve in "New Jackals" says there is strong evidence to connect the WTC 1993 attack to Iraq, but virtually none relevant to the remainder of Yousef's terrorist career.

The WTC evidence includes the date (the anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait), one of the conspirators (Yasin) subsequently fled to Baghdad (although the Iraqis recently imprisoned him, possibly as a diplomatic ploy), and another of the plotters whose uncle was connected to a terrorist operation funded by Iraq.

Have you seen the FR Research page on the subject?

Freeper Resource: What Team Saddam Doesn’t Want You To Know!

Thanks for the link... I am familiar with much of this material. For the research I've been doing, it hasn't been necessary to get into the Iraq-al Qaeda issue, which I suspect will be a separate research project for someone. I've been looking more at the operations on the ground than the ultimate puppetmasters, just because I think the former will be easier to prove than the latter.

Have you read McVeigh's book - a substantial piece written by two men who were sickened at times during the writing of McVeigh's story?

I don't believe a word in 'McVeigh's' book. It was put together for a purpose, but not about the truth.

I'll have to come back to this thread later.

FBI evidence: Others knew of McVeigh plan; Documents not given to bomber's defense
JOHN SOLOMON, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
The Record (Bergen County, NJ)
NEWS; Pg. A23
February 13, 2003 Thursday All Editions

WASHINGTON -
After the Oklahoma City bombing, FBI investigators gathered evidence linking Timothy McVeigh to white supremacists who had threatened to attack government buildings, investigative memos show.

The FBI teletype revealed that the gang members who were present when McVeigh called were familiar with explosives and had made a videotape three months before McVeigh struck, vowing a war against the federal government and promising a "courthouse massacre."
Several of the documents were not provided to the Oklahoma City bomber's defense before he was convicted. And the FBI agent in charge of the investigation says he never received one teletype from his own headquarters that raised the possibility McVeigh was aided by other accomplices.

"They short-circuited the search for the truth," said McVeigh's original attorney, Steven Jones. "I don't doubt Tim's role in the conspiracy. But I think he clearly aggrandized his role, enlarged it, to cover for others who were involved." McVeigh was executed in June 2001.

Evidence includes hotel receipts, a speeding ticket, prisoner interviews, informant reports, and phone records that suggest McVeigh had contact with a white supremacist compound in Oklahoma known as Elohim City and that members there were familiar with his plan.

"It is suspected that members of Elohim City are involved either directly or indirectly through conspiracy," federal agents wrote in one memo just days after McVeigh detonated a truck bomb April 19, 1995, outside the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City and killed more than 160 people.

The documents also include a teletype from FBI headquarters in August 1996 that reported McVeigh called Elohim City two weeks before his bombing, a call to a home where members of a violent Aryan Nation bank robbery gang were present.

McVeigh made the call April 5, 1995, moments after calling the Ryder truck company where he rented the truck that carried his deadly bomb. The government had known from an informant weeks before McVeigh's call that members of Elohim City were threatening an attack, the documents show.

The FBI teletype revealed that the gang members who were present when McVeigh called were familiar with explosives and had made a videotape three months before McVeigh struck, vowing a war against the federal government and promising a "courthouse massacre."

The Murrah Building was directly across the street from the federal courthouse in Oklahoma City.

The teletype also noted that two of the robbers left Elohim City on April 16 for a location in Kansas, a few hours from where McVeigh was doing the final assembly of his bomb.

"I did not see that teletype," said retired agent Dan Defenbaugh, who supervised the Oklahoma City investigation.

Defenbaugh said that while he didn't consider the teletype a "smoking gun" that would have changed the outcome of the probe, his investigative team "shouldn't have been cut out."

Defenbaugh said he also was surprised to learn, from Associated Press interviews and documents, that prosecutors in 1996 made and then withdrew a plea bargain offer to one of the imprisoned bank robbers, Kevin Peter Langan, who claimed he had information about the Oklahoma City bombing.

"The Justice Department came to us through the assistant U.S. attorney and said, 'We believe your client knows about Oklahoma City and we want to talk to him. We want to work out a deal,' " said Langan's lawyer, Kevin Durkin. Langan made several demands the government wasn't willing to meet, and prosecutors dropped the request, Durkin said.

Durkin said his client has information about the Oklahoma City bombing, and had planned to tell prosecutors that he could disprove the April 19 alibis for two of the bank robbers mentioned in the FBI teletype.

Langan recently asked a court to stop the government from destroying evidence he claims may be relevant to the Oklahoma City case.

FBI officials acknowledged some of the documents were not provided to McVeigh's defense team before his trial and that agents suspected at one point that the bomber was linked to Elohim City and the Aryan Nation bank robbers.

The trouble is... too many law enforcement investigators and journalists are just plain lazy and NEVER want to be made to look that way. (this applied to the courts, as well)

Sadam Hussein pulled this off without ever leaving a fingerprint and everyone just pounced on the patsy provided and said "CASE CLOSED!"

On top of that, an amoral POTUS pounced on the opportunity to demonize patriots and make himself look a little less like a Commonist with his "third way" new age Socialism!!!

That's my story and I'm stickin to it!!! (grin)

Catastrophic Intellegence Failure - Accuracy in Media report on Project Bojinka 9.24.2001

My comment: In the days following September 11th, we were told over and over again by experts, that nobody could have dreamed up an idea that terrorists would use jet planes as bombs and crash them into skyskrapers. Liars...liars...liars.. They knew all along about project bojinka....

The gubmit also knew that Nichols and Mcveigh did not act alone. Anfo bombs leave a snowstorm. Hardly a trace of anfo residue was found at scene of the bombing of the Murrah Building ... When i saw a photo of the bombed out Khobar towers next to a photo of the bombed Murrah building i knew right away that the explosives used probably had to be the same for both bombings. There was no doubt in my mind that the government (clinton administration) covered up a much wider conspiracy which probably included people from the middle east.

I read McVeigh's book and save your money it did not have the ring of truth. The book I would like to read is "The Last Jihad" by Frank Keating's brother.

I see my 87 was pulled, probably for the best.  I did feel bad after being so rough on you and I apologize for getting a little too personal.

Having said that... I still have absolutely no respect for someone who would spend 5 years at FR trying to discredit anyone and everyone who tries to dig out the facts about the OKC bombing.  Your attempts to paint them with the broad "Kook" paintbrush are transparent and laughable, and any newbies who read this thread should be aware of your history at FR.

Many innocent people lost their lives that day in the Murrah Building and nothing will bring them back. We know that.  But you know better than anyone here that McVeigh & Nichols had help from Middle Eastern characters -- Middle Eastern characters who are still loose in our country, ready to strike again.  One day the truth will come out; you must know that.

You also know that instead of showing some character by allowing an honest investigation, the Clintons used the OKC bombing to get re-elected.  Not only do you approve of it -- you defend it. For five long years.  Amazing.

New story from John Solomon today:

http://www.newsday.com/news/politics/wire/sns-ap-fbi-lab-fallout,0,6658635.story?coll=sns-ap-politics-headlines

FBI IDs Cases Likely Affected by Lab Woes

WASHINGTON -- The Justice Department has identified about 3,000 criminal cases that could have been affected by flawed science and skewed testimony at the FBI laboratory before 1997, and is letting prosecutors who handled those cases decide whether defendants should be notified.

[...]

"The department's inspector general conducted an 18-month internal investigation that concluded that 13 lab technicians had performed flawed scientific analysis or provided inaccurate, pro-prosecution testimony in cases, including the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and the 1993 World Trade Center terror attack."
