The Dixie Chicks are drawing harsh words from country music fans for remarks singer Natalie Maines made about President George W. Bush during a recent performance in London.
Maines told the audience earlier this week, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
Angry phone calls flooded Nashville radio station WKDF-FM on Thursday, some calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music.
The group released a statement Thursday saying they have been overseas for several weeks and "the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."
In a separate statement Thursday, Maines said, "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide."

"I just sent the following to the Lubbock radio station that is seeking E-mails about this incident."
A music career is a hard thing to build. It is even harder to achieve super stardom, as the Chix have. It takes much longer to earn the right to lead a nation or to conduct its foreign policy.
Can you imagine George W. Bush and Condoleezza Rice starting a singing career? Would anyone listen? Will anyone continue to listen to the Dixie Chicks?

I got the feeling that the Dixie Twits leaned to the left at least six months ago.
There is a PSA (Public Service Announcement) with them wailing "Wide Open Spaces" on AM
radio out here in Los Angeles...I think it was basically a promotion for one of the
environmentalist groups (Nature Conservancy?).
Then when I heard their cover version of that bleating-sheep song
"Landslide", I closed my ears completely.
I just hope some sane people will show up at their concerts and burn their concert
tickets in protest.

Maines is no more than a big mouthed ex-chearleader. The group was much better before she and the promotion machine came along.

The surge of opposition on the public message board caused the webmaster to take it off the main site and post a message from the Dixie Chicks that read:
We've been overseas for several weeks and have been reading and following the news accounts of our governments' position. The anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost.
And a statement from Natalie Maines: I feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view.

Funny, on Talk Radio here - a caller advised that they should have the right to speak their minds and we should not make such a big deal out of it. The caller indicated that the entertainers could speak freely, but we, the average person, must not speak out against what they said.
She never even realized how ridiculous and contradictory her statements were. More of our liberal infested education system you think?

The DCs got started here in Dallas, and they're getting skewered on talk radio around here. Mark Davis, one of their biggest fans, says they've cooked their goose by dragging Texas into their anti-war remarks. This was truly an Alec Baldwin moment that may ring the necsk of the Chicks.
I remember when they were first starting out here in Dallas. I really like them when it was just the 2 sisters. However, I quit listening to them right away when they added their new "lead singer". I can't stand her voice. Now, I REALLY can't stand it.

Just so SHE knows - "Most Americans view your comments as thoughtless and idiotic, bordering on treasonous! What the hell are you thinking of, bashing our President just as our fighting men and women are ready to go into harms way"???
"It's your right to complain about our country, HERE, ON OUR SOIL.........but don't you dare take it overseas, giving aid and comfort to all those who would do us harm"!
To verbally crap all over this country that has given you and your families SO much proves that, no matter HOW talented you may be, you are an ingrate and don't deserve ANY of it"!!!

I've already emailed Sony music to protest the fat chicks remarks. Told them I won't be buying anymore DC's CD's. I ask them where I could send my smashed Chicks CD's or should I just drop them into the trash.
