This is breaking news and details are few and far between.

I hope we "just do it" now. And, to hell with the French.

So do ya reckon if Fox news knows about it, our troops probably do as well? Ya reckon we done scrambled a bunch o' fighters & bombers and satellites are locked on the positions and cruise missles are poised? Slobdom can't wiggle his toes without us knowing about it, any preemption on his part is suicide. His troops may be so afraid that they are running away to the border and bringing the stuff with them to surrender. Remember, GWB didn't rule out nukes, if Slobdom decides to take advantage of a blinding storm and we can't counter attack with conventional means, I can pretty much guarantee that there is a Trident with in range and the launch codes are ready, coordinates punched in. "GW don't play dat"

Then again--

Maybe he is moving his missiles in the no fly zone knowing the US will knock them out. Maybe he has loaded them up with something really terrible in the form of Chem/Bio that when detonated will toxify the entire area in that zone. That would be really bad for US troops and refugees that would have to cross that area.

Sort of a suicidal mine emplacement tactic.

The "no fly" zones apply to aircraft and such. I don't think ground troops and artillery are covered.

I think it covers more than that. See

Third day of no-fly zone strikes

" In the past week, with a military confrontation looming, the allies have increased dramatically the number of airstrikes in southern Iraq, focusing on mobile mi ssile systems being moved into the area, military officials told CNN. ... Military sources say Iraq is trying to move mobile surface-to-surface missiles, mobile surface-to-air missiles, early warning radars and anti-ship missiles into the southern no-fly zone."

Interesting idea!

Exactly. There is no way we are not completely prepared for any move Saddam makes.

Yep. Saw that. Said the western missles could easily hit Israel with chemical weapons. Drones could spread stuff in Kuwait with massive casualties if the winds were correct......

I apologize if this seems like an obvious question, but how long can the troops afford to wait before stopping this deployment? It would seem to me this must be stopped ASAP. What am I missing? Why has an attack on those forces not been initiated? Does Kuwait have the capability to attack immediately? Surely these drones must seem a terrible threat to their safety.

Please, will a military person clear this up for me?

The chemical scenario is the most frightening of the entire deal. By declaring regime change, he may feel he has nothing to lose. I've heard with the warmer weather it's more difficult for our troops to wear chemical gear. Don't know how valid that is in reality, but it makes sense.

We are being duped into attacking. Saddam must have figured that all it will take is one "misguide" attack on our part to completely sway the world opinion. Oddly, he may be right.

All you have to do is examine the situation. Saddam has all the world (except us) running interference for him. What could he possibly gain from launching an attack against us at this point?

Oliver North was just on Fox reporting from Kuwait. He said the noise in the background was one of our drones returning from a mission, so we know exactly what Iraq is up to.
