FoxNews Alert just reported that Iraqi troops have left Baghdad with heavy artillary and are heading south to the Kuwaiti boarder. More troops with SCUD missle launchers are heading west. The thought is that Saddam is about to attack our troops.
This is breaking news and details are few and far between.

Frankly I'm focusing on 250,000 US troops in the area.Who isn't? My step-son and his unit are positioned to take action necessary to help protect Israel, so I was particularly interested in troop movement tonight. A one minute update and then on to the Smart case. Enough already.

Seriously, how do we go about getting the inspectors out without tipping our hand? Do you think the special ops guys might slip in and secure the compound. Once secured, it's bombs away!

If saddam takes a swing @ Israel, there won't be a whole lot left for the U.S. to do except take Iraqi body counts.

Agreed; the problem with Saddam is he's hard to predict and he's cornered. I don't think he'll react pre-emptively but after reading The Threatening Storm it's easy to see why the CIA and other intel agencies have had a hard time predicting his next move(s).

Ditto what you said about Israel. They shoot first and ask questions later. I always like that about them.

The order given to Saddam's Generals, to use gas, dramatically changes the calculus of this war. We may very well be in the thick of it tonight.
God bless our troops and our Commander in Chief

Yeah, Saddam thinks that, and so do most Freepers.
But he's losing the diplomatic war.
He lost 15-0 in the first round to this President.
We have troops in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, and Turkey. He's now destroying missiles.
What does Saddam have to show for diplomatic wins?
Oh yeah, France is on his side. Maybe he finds that reassuring, but only if he hasn't read any european history books.

First Strike?
U.S. Military Concerned Saddam Hussein May Launch First Attack
By John McWethy
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/wnt/World/iraq030313_strike.html
March 13 U.S. officials fear that once President Bush signals the U.S. is headed to war, Saddam Hussein will strike pre-emptively, administration sources told ABCNEWS.
But if the United States takes action to stop an Iraqi first strike, especially if they try to seize and protect the oil fields, U.S. officials admit they may end up starting the war itself.
This new level of concern about Iraq is caused by an accumulation of intelligence including troubling new details that focus on three areas:
Specific new evidence indicates that Iraqi activity in the Western desert shows the strong likelihood Scud missiles are hidden there. These missiles could easily reach Israel carrying chemical or biological warheads which could draw Israel into any war.
Detailed new intelligence from the southern Iraqi oil fields shows that many of the 700 wells have now been wired with explosives. These explosives appear to be connected to a central command post, so Saddam could easily set the wells ablaze.
Near the border with Kuwait, where 135,000 U.S. troops are now stationed, recent surveillance indicates Iraqi artillery batteries have been moved dangerously close. The artillery is capable of firing shells filled with poison gas.
The United States is now considering moving against all three of these targets before any war begins in an effort to prevent Saddam from acting first, sources told ABCNEWS.

Me, too. After the Carter's aborted attempt to rescue the hostages in Iran, my dad said, "Send the Jews in. They'll get 'em out."

Come on now, what's the difference? Same scabs, different uniforms.

The only way to get the inspectors out is to slip a note stating that they are about to stumble onto a mother-lode of WMD. That should send them hauling ass, ears covered, eyes closed, and mouths pursed tightly.

Does anyone know when the last show was that Bennett was NOT on there? You must only watch on Tuesdays. Bennet is there on Tuesdays.

I would agree on the Smart case. And I understand now why your focus was on Israel. Mine would be too with a son on the frontier there. I don't mean to bad-mouth Israel by any means, but our men and women are first and foremost on my mind. Take care.

This might be a good time to consider a new "highway of death". Simply anihilate the artillery column, daisy cutters and Moabs for everyone.
