Police found Elizabeth Smart alive and in the company of a transient panhandler Wednesday, some nine months after she disappeared from her Salt Lake City home. Sandy police located Elizabeth in the suburb with Brian David Mitchell, who had worked odd jobs for the Smarts for five hours in November 2001 and was wanted for questioning. Salt Lake City Police Chief Rick Dinse said investigators are convinced Elizabeth was kidnapped, and released the name of Wanda Eileen Barzee as a second suspect in the crime.

A 14/15 girl is hardly a woman. And btw...rape does not make a once virgin a woman.

transporting a minor across state lines for illicit purposes w/o parental permission is a violation of the Mann Act.
Then you would have to prove illicit purposes which means that Elizabeth would have to testify that something illicit happened. No, I am thinking that the mere act of assisting a minor to be away from his or her parents without the knowledge or consent of the parents is a crime, regardless of the purposes. Sort of like "harboring a fugitive." If it's not a crime, then is should be. It's certainly immoral.

I heard one program last night say they had just spoken with Dr. Lee. Apparently, he said the screen had been cut on both the inside and outside. They never said how long the cuts were.

You have got a serious problem and I RARELY say that to anyone on open forum. Maybe you need to get a paper bag and breathe in it for awhile.

I don't think the paperbag would work. Therapy maybe.

You are entitled to disagree, but she were my daughter I would go to great lengths to avoid having her testify in an open court to any allegations of sexual involvement with Mitchell. This poor girl was brought up to think that she was very special and it could destroy her to think that she had been complicit in her own destruction. She has obviously been brainwashed into cooperation with these nuts and until she realizes this it would be unhealthy to have her discuss what went on.

Well, he *is* crazy. He should be locked up all the same...and should have been before he comitted a crime.
I'm with Mark Furhman - not meaning to put words in his mouth - but be pointed out the danger to society of letting loonies run around unchecked.
FWIW, He may not only have triggered mental illness via drug use, but he also made jewelry... the heavy metals and solvents used can cause brain damage and neuro-psychiatric illness. He was mad as a march hare.

Looks like it got Admin Moderator therapy -- and in record time!

You need to read up on Mitchell. There is nothing to suggest that she "ran away" and a great deal of evidence and statements to indicate the opposite is true.
You are so very wrong. You are wrong to call her complicit (as opposed to compliant) and to call her sister a liar, in the face of what is known about Mitchell.

LOL Admin mod therapy..that was a keeper! It shoudl be added to the classics such taking a shower and series.
Contrary to opinions of a couple who shall remain nameless, I did NOT click the abuse button. I didn't even think of it actually.

It was me. That was too over the top, especially when I have a young daughter.

I think it possible that Elizabeth is a lot stronger than you might think, especially after her experience, after the maturity that she has gained just over the ensuing months, and because she has such a strong, strong family to give her support.
I think they're going to go slow with this, allow her to compose the facts on her own without a lot of outside prompting, even from the Police.
After all, the authorities don't need that much information to hold these people, and they can take their time building the case.
In the end I do believe Elizabeth will be strong enough to testify. Wait and see. You might be very surprised.

I did too. That was its 2nd out of line post in the past few minutes, and worse than the first one. It was threatening to stick around. There's no reason not to poke the abuse button where it's clearly warranted -- that's what it's there for. When new visitors to FR see that sort of garbage, it tends to cause the good ones to run away and never come back.

Nice to hear from you, but you have me confused with another poster. I never used the word "complicit" or even "compliant" or made any similar remarks.
As to Mary Katherine, there is a difference between saying that someone is not crecible and calling them a liar. From all we have been told, MK said that there was a gun. There was no gun. She is not a credible witness, and no prosecutor would dream of putting her on the stand. She would get detsroyed by even a mediocre defense attorney.
To: AppyPappy
I understand, and i don't blame you for doing it...it was a terrible thing to say.

I've noticed that there is this coterie of outrageous posters who like to taunt those they believe hit the abuse button.
IOW, it's okay for THEM to violate the posting guidelines on the forum, but if YOU push "Abuse" on them (which you have every right to do) you are out of line?
Right.
