[history]
Removing Saddam Hussein from power and eliminating his weapons of mass destruction is an important step in ensuring the safety and security of Americans and of freedom loving people everywhere. Doing this will also liberate Iraq from Saddams murderous regime.
According to a recent CBS News poll, 69% of Americans support the use of military action to remove Saddam. However, President Bush has been impeded in accomplishing this by the actions of a small number of activists who have used a sympathetic media to project an image of widespread opposition. Although some participants are sincere if misguided pacifists, their demonstrations have been organized and funded by international leftist groups who are militant in their hatred of America, free-market capitalism and the conservative values on which our country was founded. Their goal is to undermine the authority and effectiveness of the President and his Administration.
Their actions have weakened the resolve of our country, distracted members of our military as they prepare for war, and encouraged a vicious enemy dictator to believe that Americans lack the courage to end his evil schemes.
We need to demonstrate to our fellow citizens, our soldiers, our nation and the world that:
1) we support our troops,
2) we stand in opposition to terrorism and terrorists, and
3) we endorse swift military action in Iraq and the liberation of the Iraqi people.
Over the years, Free Republic has grown into a major force for conservatism and positive change. We have organized and participated in thousands of rallies across this country. Now it is time to join forces with other conservative organizations, combining our efforts to stage a major national event that will make our voices heard not only in America, but around the world. The Free Republic Network has joined with Young Americans for Freedom as national sponsors for this event, in addition to several other large national conservative organizations who will be coming on board early next week. In addition, we expect participation as co-sponsors or endorsers from several hundred other conservative groups who will be contacted in the next few days.
This will be the first time Free Republic has networked with multiple national conservative partners on a national drive and we will be coordinating our efforts and media plan for maximum benefit and return. During the election crisis of 2000, FR organized and participated in demonstrations in over 200 cities. Let's show America and the world what Free Republic is about, and make it our goal to double that benchmark by committing ourselves to a Rally for America in 400 cities and towns!
Here's how you can help:
1. If you are a member of a Free Republic Chapter, help plan a rally for the weekend of March 22-23. If you are not in a Chapter, start one. It doesn't matter if there are 5 or 500 at your location. The country, the world, and most important, our troops will hear your voices. Once you've made your plans, post your rally information at www.freeper.org.
2. Tell your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers and ask them to attend. Call your local newspapers, TV and radio stations and ask them to promote the event. Ask your Church to support the event. Call local organizations like the VFW, AMvets, Kiwanis and Lions Club and ask them to inform their members. Post flyers around your area.
Complete information about the Rally for America, event locations, and how to organize a rally in your area, complete with tools, resources and communication assistance can be found at "Rally for America" central;

VH&W,
Our website should be active within 2 hours. Admittedly, only a dozen or so Rallies are listed just yet and it may take a few days to get people to get them up.

If you're trying to contact people in Houston about a rally, try Flyer or Humblegunner: they're both active in Houston, I think.

Other than moving the time up to account for the double header at the USA Stadium looks like things are looking up.

We are trying to decide if we are going to have another rally so soon. A radio station sponsored one on March 1st that drew 10,000.

That's understandable Flyer. However, if Houston wants, you can make this one high speed and low drag. Just get a ten or so out on a street corner somewhere. The media requests are coming in fast and furious (fielded 5 in the last hour) and I'm sure we will hear from Houston area media soon.

high speed and low drag Laugh! The big one was downtown. I pondering one in the suburbs so folks don't have to dedicate 4 -5 hours to attend. (drive downtown, find parking attend the rally, de-park and drive home. . . whew!)

It's so nice to have a pro-America rally!! Better than those leftists invading my town.
Seen at a DC Freep last weekend: a woman wearing a t-shirt that said, "We are all Palestinians."

GailA, this is great. When you have a rally set for sure, you just go to the freeper.org website and click on your area of the country to add yourself to the rally map. Freepmail BobJ if you have questions.

Will do. Should know more tomorrow. Nailing down the time and musicians is the big thing at this point. The Col is doing most of the work. He just took it and ran with it. I was honest with him and said I didn't have any prior experience or particular skills. He's checking with Community TV to see if they will do some advertising and video tape it. I've got a tenative program outlined.
I'd like it video taped so I can send GW Bush 1 copy and a few copies to several different ships or units that are over there.
I'm fleshing out a program
Open program with a prayer by base Chaplain
America Legion presents and salutes the Colors
Star Spangled Banner
Pledge delivered by an Eagle Scout or Boy Scouts
Speeches by various people (Col Lopez as key note speaker)
Ragged Old Flag
Red Skelton's Pledge
God Bless America
God Bless the USA
America the Beautiful
Have You Forgotten (by Darryl Worley) IF we can find a copy
Proud to Be an American
Stars and Stripes Forever
She's a Grand Old Flag
Rally Round the Flag
Close with the base chaplain invoking a blessing on our troops as Amazing Grace is played softly in the background.
American Legion retires the Colors
Maybe some Yellow Ribbons can be handed out as they can be made CHEAP

*Especially* if the Col is doing most of the work, have him register it at www.freeper.org because the FRN people are going to send out a bunch of press releases. You can ride on what hopefully will be a little "national press" wave of publicity through a nationwide push. So have him register it early on and this will help you guys! SOUNDS GREAT

"Speeches by various people (Col Lopez as key note speaker)"
Here's some advice -- you don't want a whole bunch of speakers. If you want the rally to last just 2 hours, say, you may want just 4 or so speakers. (Any chance there are any Iraqi Americans in exile in your part of the words that could talk about Saddam's brutality? Hmm, suppose not in that neck of the woods.)
People who speak take longer than they planned, LOL! For a smaller rally, 2 hours is a much better maximum time than 3 hours. With 3 hours, people come and go and then you never have your total crowd with you the whole time.
