China: Iraq War Opposition Will Prevail

BEIJING --

China's foreign minister, hurrying to the United Nations on Friday for a crucial Security Council meeting, said his government's position against military action in Iraq is unchanged -- and that "the opposition to war is prevailing."

Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan also called on Iraq not only to cooperate, but to do so more willingly.

"The majority of countries in the world stand for a political solution, and the opposition to war is prevailing," the official Xinhua News Agency quoted Tang as saying.

It said Tang made the comments to Chinese reporters upon arrival in New York for a U.N. Security Council meeting Friday. It was Tang's third trip to New York in four weeks for Security Council meetings; last time, he spoke at length to the council, prescribing caution and saying inspections should go on.

Tang also said the international community should "urge Iraq for substantive cooperation in a more proactive manner."

Tang also reiterated support for a statement issued this week by France, Russia and Germany to block passage of any U.N. resolution authorizing force against Baghdad.

But, as in a news conference in Beijing on Thursday, Tang stopped short of saying that China itself would actively block that resolution.

Fine. You will be held accountable for your vote after Iraq is liberated, and the true extent of the Iraqi regimes WMD and human rights record will be known.

After the elimination of Saddam, we will discover how China has also helped Iraq with its ability to make and use WMD. China, like France and Germany, is trying to cover-up its dirty hands.

>>Iraq War Opposition Will Prevail <<

As the former Dear Leader, President Xlinton (D-Wal-Mart) would say,

"That depends on what you mean by prevail"

"That depends on what you mean by prevail"

It means that, when this is all over, the vast majority of the American antiwar crowd will still be alive amd walking free, unlike dissidents in China.

It also means China plans to vote no...it won't stop the successful prosecution of the war, but they can still say the sentiment "prevailed".

The U.N. is dead, just like NATO. Good riddance.

The U.N. is dead

Unfortunately that doesn't mean they won't keep it propped up and artificially animated, like Walter Mondale in the Senate campaign last fall. ;D

I don't have a problem with buying Chinese goods, but I boycotted during the survellance plane incident, and I think we need another boycott now. Not about Iraq. I frankly don't give a damn what the Chinese do about Iraq, but if they're so damn interested in political solutions, they need to get off their clymers and give us a political solution in North Korea. We're headed for a no-shiite-millions-could-die war there if something isn't done. The Chinese are fully capable of doing something, and obviously they are not so far.

And compare that to countries that are on the winning side. Look at Kuwait's stock market for example.

"the opposition to war is prevailing."

Prevail in what sense? If by 'prevailing' he means keeping us from taking care of the business at hand (militarily), he's living in a dream world.
