Omaha Beach Veteran on the peach activists
post on My.Yahoo ^ | 3/06/03 | unknown

To all Americans,

Almost sixty years ago, my brother, best friend and I clawed our way to shore at Dog Green on Omaha Beech. My brother was cut down in the surf by a machine gun nest and my best friend was smashed to pieces by a mortar. That same mortar, took my left leg.

Soon I will join those whom I left behind on that hellish battlefield so many years ago. I have lived to regret many things in my younger life. I regret the tattoo I got while drunk one night in London. I regret the falling out I had with my son for fifteen years. I regret the things I said and did in the idealistic brashness of my youth. But I shall never ever regret or feel shame for what I and my country did on D-day.

It was my duty and my own personal moment of honor. A duty that all Americans should feel obliged to the country that raised them nurtured them and blessed them. At that time, we had a very small minority of peace activists. However, they were not vocal in comparison to today's standards. Those who felt they could not take a life joined the medical corps and served to save lives. Some worked long hard hours in factories to support those on the front lines. They sacrificed in their own way and stand in the light of honor forever.

But, virtually nobody, stood on street corners screaming obscenities, verbally abusing senior citizens and veterans, and boasting treasonous signs like the spiteful lot I saw this weekend in my hometown. My heart sinks every time I think of them. For they have forgotten the vicious attack on 9/11, the gallant crew of the Cole, the marines bombed. They ignore the school buses full of children and young people who are bombed in Israel by cowardly punks who have chosen to live their lives in dishonor.

These people are a thankless, self righteous, self centered, mixed up lot. They extol the virtues of public free speech and silence those who pray in public. A bad day for them is a Dow Jones, which dropped a couple of points. Meanwhile, some dedicated young person is suffering through the disciplines of boot camp and battlefield conditions to protect their unappreciated right to free trade and speech.

I am 85 now. Cancer will soon claim my bones back to my maker. I have lived and worked many hard and challenging years. I never took a handout or expected one. Yet after all the work of my generation, I feel saddened and disheartened. My biggest regret is that all our sacrifices are for naught. This savage vocal minority is given free press and license to spread their dishonorable treasonous lies in support of an evil darkness that the world has not seen since Hitler. For indeed, Mr. Saddam is like unto Mr. Hitler in 1936. If he had been dealt with then, we would not have had a D-Day years later. To those who support our troops and the war on this evil called terrorism, you have my blessings. To all the pansy punks and their signs of treason and hatred to this country I curse you. Your place in eternity is not with those of honor who went before you. It is in a hell of your own making, lined with the curtains and tapestries of dishonor and traitorous deeds.

Looking at that giant peach kind of reminds me of that cult classic, "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes".

Hmmm ... don't meen to make light of a good post, but Peach Activists might become very well become a part of Freeper lore, like those other series subjects.

We all have Miss Emily Latella moments from time to time.

It's better to misspell a word than to correct one. Are you an English teacher wanna be?

This is a political site. A conservative site. Usually it's wimpy liberals who go around correcting spelling... Usually because they have nothing to say. I'm sure there are places you can go where you can correct spelling and laugh at your perceived superiority, but it's not here.

Make Peach, Not War!

President Bush desires PEACH but will go to war if need be. It is a BERRY GRAPE responsibility to lead and not follow. The President has BANANA'd over to appease the UN. It does a PEAR that we can count on support from our KIWI allies as well as the CHERRY brave folks from the UK. Many young people in our military CANTELOPE with their loved ones before they leave so they will have to wait till they get back before they can PAPAYA the knot. And as far as the PLUM French, ORANGE they brave for not setting a DATE for inspections? Bunch of FIGS.

What a great essay...thanks for posting! I think it may well be legit. As you say, it looks as though it was written by a person with an excellent command of the language, but certain terms and phrases suggest that it was written by an older person.

He is right...there WERE peace activists then, particularly before Pearl Harbor. Of course they had the good grace to, for the most part, slink back to their caves after we were obviously involved. Had they not, they would have been shunned and ridiculed by the general populace...most of whom had friends and relatives in the war. Many of the peaceniks today are nothing more than leftover communists and hippies from the Vietnam era. They should be vilified and scorned wherever they appear.

Maybe we could throw peaches? (sure hope that that "peach" post doesn't disappear...or that will look really silly).
