U.S. May announce "temporary" suspension of U.N. membership if war veto
http://www.instapundit.com ^ | 3/6/03 | Stephen Pollard

Posted on 03/06/2003 7:30:10 PM PST by Baron von Smash

...Stephen Pollard writes in The Telegraph that the U.S. (and Britain?) may stage a U.N. walkout if the obstructionists carry the day at the Security Council:

Well-connected advisers tell me that if, as now seems likely, the UN refuses to back action against terror, Mr Bush will announce a "temporary" suspension of America's membership, to be accompanied by an offer: if the UN gets its act together and carries out long-overdue reforms, America (and its money) will return. But if there is no reform, the temporary withdrawal will, de facto, become permanent.

I like that idea as well, Colin Powell appoints the 'Dell Dude' intern as his go between and he sits in during the debates to wield the US Veto while smoking a joint in the bathroom , eating pizza during debates etc.

Now he will have support to dump the idiots and ask them to leave.

Ask them to leave? Not if had my way, just hook up the raw sewage pipes to their water pipes so all they get for water is raw sewage. Now some of UN pukes will not mind the stench because they are used to it from their own countries. Send in the SWAT teams to clear the place out. I'm sure New York could find somebody who could use the place and get paid to boot.

>>Invasion of Europe only had a total of 156,000 troops including ALL allied forces<<

AND they were fighting Germans, not Arabs,

AND they didn't have A-10s overhead.

If the U.S truly withdraws from the UN then that will be better than when the Baltimore Ravens won the superbowl. I detest that evil organization.

I detest the Ravens too. Go Jags!

I hate the Ravens to. Modell is a Rat.

However I would be estatic if we were to leave that useless piece of dung the UN floating in the Atlantic.

I am always amazed when I see pictures of the malnourished and diseased masses in many countries, that I never see any of those unfortunate people as representatives to the U.N.

Instead I see another group of pimps (well fed and dined) nursing at the breast of their government's treasuries!

How about heeding the suggestion your mom made not to say anything unless you're contributing?

So why aren't YOU listening to YOUR mom instead of preaching others to listen to theirs? What a cry baby.

I can't believe it!!!!!!

You shouldn't. If it seems too good to be true, it ususally is. And anyway, anything short of a permanent withdrawal from the UN is just for show. This "temporary" business is a bunch of nonsense.

In my opinion, the UN will vote to pass the resolution without a veto from anyone.

A veto would send the UN into irrelevancy, and would possibly result in punitive actions by the US such as are threatened here.

A veto would also require guts, and that's something the French have rarely shown.

The UN has never made a substantial charge that the US wasn't leading. Look at Kosovo and Rwanda. Kosovo was in Europe's back yard and they wouldn't lift a finger to correct it. The US had to do all the work.

With Rwanda, the US didn't address the issue so the UN ignored it. With little exception, the UN is comprised of navel-gazers. The US is the only nation capable of giving the UN any substance.

Temporary???? Make it permanent. We can still trade overseas without the UN and their tyrannical International Criminal Court and ruling the world globalist dreams.

I think someone needs to publically claim that France and Russia are aiding terrorists with their tanks, supplies and sales to Iraq. And what is China and Germany dealing Iraq? Why are they protecting a mad man?

...And though Bob Dornan in action as 'U.S. Ambassador to the UN' would make watching a televised debate there better than any Seinfeld episode, I'd be torn between that assignment, and having B-1 replace Ari Fleitcher as Press Secretary (just to have him abuse Helen Thomas)...

Is that so wrong? Heh-heh-heh....

Now that is definitely some good news. I'm sorry if anyone disagrees with this but if it wasn't for the U.S. & it's military this world would go to hell in a hand basket pretty damn quick. The UN cannot survive without us & I believe it shall come to that revelation very quickly if this does indeed come to pass.

We made the UN and can break the UN!

It is us who provide the majority of funding and often even the necessary forces to do anything (Somalia, Haiti). The UN has grown to the point where building a consensus is imposable. Out side interests dictate the agenda, as evidenced by France and Russian behavior on a second resolution. Political correctness is rampant and Bureaucrats run it. It is no longer an organization that benefits us and if we dump it, others will follow. If we leave, a large part of the organizations funding will be lost. US forces that often get committed for UN operations will be gone. Other nations will follow suit and leave as well. When the US leaves, the UN will not die immediately, but will slowly fade away. The UN is an organization where everyone serves themselves, but where it is important to present it as “for the people”, “for the world”, “for the children”. The food for oil program is again a good example. It was “for the children”, and the French pushed for it hard. Now the French have almost an exclusive market for their shit. A 3.3 billion dollar (annual) business deal that had nothing to do with “the children”. As Saddam is building more marble and gold palaces, funds a 335,000 man strong military, is purchasing French built spare parts for his Mirage, all while his “children” are starving. But he has mastered the art of using the western media against us. The question is: If we pay, provide support and get little to nothing in return, what are we doing there? Do you realize that the games the Germans, French and Russians are playing can cost us American lives? Do you know that Iraq chairs the UN committee on WMD proliferation? What about Iran chairing the human rights commission? Hey, all we need is an idiot as president Kofi Annan, and a special commission on Iraq lead by a guy who dose not want to be responsible for starting a war “Blix”. Does this ring familiar?

US interests will still be protected as long as we don't become isolationist. If we leave the UN we can still have forces on the ground in S Korea, and anyone messing with S. Korea will know whom they are messing with. This will be regardless of UN membership. Other nations will still be in alliances with us. Japan, Australia, Britain, S. Korea, Israel, many others will still see a great advantage for themselves by being within an alliance (for whatever reason). We can still manipulate the world outside us even without UN membership.
