In other words, you don't have any evidence that Iraq is behind 9-11. Back when I thought Saddam was at fault, I was gung-ho for war. Now that they haven't shown us any evidence, I've back off, and dont' see any reason to treat him differently than we're treating N Korea. You say we'll "get to N Korea in due time" But Bush disagrees - he says diplomacy and containment will work for N Korea. If so, then I'd like to see them tried with Iraq before we go in and get our people killed and create an imperialistic occupation for years and years.

The absolute direct link between 9/11 and Iraq isn't necessary - the link between terrorist organizations including Al Queda serves the purpose. This isn't about retaliation for 9/11, its about prevention of another such event by removing the capability for such an attack. As long as the likes of Saddam have weapons suitable for mass destruction and they have relations with the likes of OBL and other terrorist organizations, they are a threat. As well, Colon Powell clearly made the case for action in his address weeks ago to the UN. That you choose to ignore it doesn't make it less true. You want more than a smoking gun; you want a smoking artillary battery. Or, maybe you want a couple more 9/11's just to make sure we're doing the right thing.

I said we'll get to North Korea in good time because we will. I never said that diplomacy wouldn't be part of our solution to North Korea. Why you try to differentiate between what I said and what the President said is beyond me. Diplomacy will very likely work with N. Korea - they are a country in need. We've been trying diplomacy with Iraq for 12 years and it hasn't worked yet. Besides, as I said before (and you chose not to quote), N. Korea doesn't have a penchant to kill innocent civilians despite her sabre rattling - Saddam has shown that he does.

I will support this President no matter what. He touches me profoundly, God bless him. He was somber, understated and yet the message was loud and clear. Best American I've known in my lifetime.

that's right. I'm a "weasel" because I have doubts about a preemptive attack on Iraq. I guess that makes Bush a "weasel" because he has doubts about a preemptive attack on N Korea. Or don't the N Korean people -- and their liberation -- count as much in your eyes?

"What, if anything, in any of churchillbuff's posts has led you to believe that he has engaged in "thinking"?"

His search for consistency, for one. We seem to bully weak nations that have little bearing on our security, yet ignore stronger nations that actually pose a threat to us.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear."
~Marcus Tullius Cicero, 42 B.C.

Dude,

Don't diss the Mexican immigrants. I would not mind driving a mile over the bridge to East LA and rounding up a posse of homeboys who would be VERY pleased to kick the a$$ of *anybody* who messed with America. Most of these vatos and cholos are darn happy they are in the US and not Mexico.

It came out in the "minorities will die first" BS that while blacks are concentrated in support/logistics roles, Latinos consistently max out on their training scores and volunteer for combat missions.

The false premise of the left when they put up the NK strawman is that they aren't in favor of getting tough with NK either. It's basically a three card Monte game - the left wants us to take our eye off the Iraq card by distracting us with NK. If we could instantaneously shift our forces and be ready to engage NK they would have some reason why we shouldn't do so. It's a false argument and a false premise. The thing is that we have Iraq in our sights and this is our best and perhaps only chance to take care of hussein. The course is to do things in order, first hussein and then NK. The left wants us to do neither. The NK argument is a total fake out and it is made disingenuously.

"What terrorists who have attacked the United States were supported by Saddam?"

Try OKC and the Murrah Building!!!

Only problem is that it can't be proved since the Clintons totally covered up the whole thing and the admin is loathed to pull the covers. (IMnotsoHO)

What, you don't want to hear Gary HArt pretending to be concerned about American national security?

Where was Gary Hart when Clinton had appointed Hazel O'Leary as energy secretary and when she virtually eliminated security in our weapons labs?

Where was Gary Hart when Al Gore was diddling around on Airline Security and seling out to the airlines?

Where was Gary Hart when North Korea was being bribed by the Clinton Administration and we were getting absolutely nothing in return but belligerence and the shaft?

Where was Gary Hart for the last twelve years while this Iraqi Circle-Jerk was going on?

I don't recall hearing from him even once.

nobody else says they saw her, but I was looking for her...and I swear it had to be her.....and I thought it was great, she wasn't called on. Unless it was someone short, fat, with hair like hers.....but there can't be that many ugly reporters at the White House.

I blew right past that the first time. Holy cow -ping- if true. The press conference tonight was a clear foreshadow of withdrawal of the US from the UN.

The last President who had a "Theme Foreign Policy" was Jimmy Carter. It didn't work at all.

Liberal, pinko commie stooge! slap!!!

You've just outed yourself as nothing more than a useful idiot troll who's spewing from the DNC talking points. If this is such a concern, why don't you do something useful with yourself, like volunteer to be a human shield in Baghdad, or go clear landmines north of the DMZ?

"there are no Al Qaidas in NK. there are in Iraq.

Yes, in the Kurdish region, which Saddam doesn't control."

AQ getting med treatment in Bhagdad and training at the Solman camp SW of there. That is just starters.

You have been around here long enough that you should know better. You come accross as a kid in college that quit reading about foreign affairs after finishing "Dick & Jane" in first grade. Spend a little time reading archived articles on FR about Iraq and N Korea before you make the silly statements you have been. Unless you are a journalist... then it is understandable.

Careful in quoting biblical verses now. Now you must quote something about the nut cases running N Korea.

okay.

Neither is Bush. He says containment will work. What I want to know is, why, then, can't we try it with Iraq as well? I'm not a leftist, but if containment will work against a country as dangerous as N Korea (as Bush claims it will), then I think it should be tried against Iraq before some of the Marines I know are asked to die before they reach their 23d birthdays.

I've finally reached the conclusion that this war actually is about oil. But Europe's oil, not ours.

And by "this war" I am referring to the war that began in 1991. It all makes sense to me now -- that whole thing was a construct of the U.N. primarily for the benefit of Europe, and we are preparing to enter the final phase right now.
