I agree that going to the UN is necessary to provide cover for Blair. But at what point have we done enough, especially if we assume that time is of the essence militarily.
Extending this 'til the end of the month as Britain wants, seems useless. Inspectors aren't going to find anything different than what they've come up with so far.

have explained the waiting on at least five different threads. First, let's see what it is NOT about: it is not about the military. The military is ready, willing, and able.
it is not about the UN. Bush knows the diplomatic route is garbage, but we do need to maintain alliances for the larger "war on terror," so he couldn't come out and call the French cheese-eating-surrender-monkeys.
So what IS it about? One of two things. If you saw the post by Mansoor Ijaz on NRO Monday, ("Brain Drain") he had a very important paragraph, where he said that the arrest of KSM and the info we were getting likely pre-empted some pretty big attacks that were supposed to happen with the onset of the war. So first, this delay has been about making sure that the "retaliatory" attacks by AQ did not occur.
Second, you have NOT heard anything about this, but I am convinced that Tom Ridge has been one of the keys, closely tied to the issue above. Perhaps Ridge knows of some expected attacks and the CIVILIAN response in the U.S. wasn't yet ready to deal with it. Obviously I don't know what specifically that might be, but I'm convinced that Homeland Security has been one of the major factors in delaying this war. As you (and STRATFOR) show, from a purely military point of view, waiting is silly.
This is such an insightful and well-reasoned post that it deserves to be bumped.

The Israelis have always been endangered by all of their neighbors but never as much as their neighbors have been endangered by themselves and each other. Thanks be to God!
It's way past time to smoke the joint that is Iraq.

Lots of TV talking heads agreeing with your assessment.

Not only that but she asked the stupidest question yet: are we going to the UN so they can get their people of their before we starting bombing?
To: AppyPappy
North Korea did not. Therefore, Iraq's WMD are a threat. If NK uses it's rockets on its neighbors, we will treat NK just like Iraq.
Go slow for me? Go slow for yourself. You've never heard of the Korean War? That was an invasion, bub. And the N Koreans have never stood down. Their soldiers are at the DMZ; they regularly threaten to make Seoul a "lake of fire." Yet Bush says it's ok to deal with this aggressive, belligerent, threatening -- and armed -- country by containment. Before we send American young people to have their lives snuffed out in the Middle East, I'd like to see the Bush Doctrine (viz North Korea) given a try viz Iraq. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Howlin, thank you. I watched, but since he came on at 5:00 out here on the Left Coast, I was in the middle of starting dinner (we eat early 'cause we have to go to bed early), I wasn't able to follow the thread.
Now I'm sitting down relaxing, and am going to start with the first post and go all the way to #1559 (and counting ;-)

"I saw her heinous.....back a few rows, at the end....went it went to Brit Hume.....she looked like a troll getting off her chair, lol....wearing red. " I was waiting for someone to say that they had seen her. Means she was there and she was NOT called on! GREAT!

I just copied that, printed it, and put it on my refrigerator: right beneath a picture of a bomb with the words "Kiss Mike Moran's royal Irish ass" written on the side. Thank you for posting it.

The years haven't been kind to Mr. Hart. He was never very smart to begin with.
