Wasn't the last ten years all about containment? Did it work? Were the UN resolutions violated? Did the oil embargo on Iraq work? The only thing a scumbag like Saddam understands is a bullet and Clinton didn't have the balls or the brains to pull it off. Now Saddam will have to deal with a man that is not afraid to use massive force to pursue our national security interests. Saddam deserves everything coming his way.

".......like to hear why the double standard......"Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say, 'What should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and our posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship, and plough, and sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!

Correct, last Fall The congress passed a bill Authorizing the President to take action against IRAQ if they don't disarm. Of course they did, but this bill passed by Congress was not necessary. The President is the Commander In Chief, and can deploy troops and put them into action as he sees fit. Formal declarations of war STILL need to be made in Congress. I believe the last formal declaration was WWII

Right - - I'm "disloyal" because I think the Bush policy toward N Korea makes sense for Iraq as well.I agree with you as to principal but not as to timing.

Newt Gingrich is giving an excellent analysis right now on FoxNews. Newt's doing a great job. O'Reilly unfortunately had his own expectations for the press conference (he wanted more specific information), so he's not satisfied.

did he say "sober"
hahaha
Maybe Bush has delayed because he knew some real specifics about the planned attacks and was waiting to see if we could get #3 guy.
I hope at some point we are told what they were planning.

I may be wrong, but what better way to screw your opponent than to say, convincingly, "we're going to attack you, not today, but as soon as a week from now," and then attack them tomorrow.
It may be my wishful thinking, I admit.

I think he hasn't been out of the state where he was born, and has little or now idea what "living in fear" means. I'll bet the worst concern he has ever had has been which fast food resturant to stuff his face!
He more than likely missed his favorite sitcom because of the President"s news conference, and he's venting a little steam.

And he also told the entire world that the UN doesn't freaking matter. They can join us if they wish.

The take on NK first is a ploy developed by the NY Slimes and the DNC. It doesn't even deserve any more consideration than their lack of gravitas bs.
They probably don't even have a nuclear weapon yet.
Back again, to who did you vote for in 2000?

Only in Iraq (and N Korea) -- and on this board -- are people who exercise independence of judgment, and don't march in lockstep, called "sleepers" or disloyal.
Actually the democrat party has much worse names for independant thinkers, and treats them MUCH worse.

Sounds like you really have a "thing" against things religious??? Find 3 posts from me that would indicate I am "against things religious".
When you find there are none, please ask the Admin Moderator to remove your message. And you can keep the ice.

No, Clinton didn't pressure Iraq to disarm. Bush has begun to do so - let's see how it goes.

<148 posts and this thing hasn't even started yet ?? We really need to find something to do .... ;)
Haha, you are so right.

It was the declaration, not the announcement, that was in question. I think we got our wires crossed. Of course, the announcement will most likely be from the Oval Office.

>>They ceded their power to use force to the President based on HIS sole discretion. He has their blessing already.<<
But he doesn't have THIS:
"the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States."
