Nature's face is not always serene.
This view rather echoes the gathering storm clouds of the week,
as might be viewed from jw's West coastal position - -

Here it is ! NBC, just like I thought. But I didn't want to say that and perhaps be wrong . . .

FR and FR Network to be Featured on NBC Nightly News
with Tom Brokaw - Thurs 6:30pm (check locally)

NBC News | 3-6-03 | Bob J

Posted on 03/05/2003 11:37 AM CST by Bob J

This morning I was interviewed as a representative of Free Republic, the Free Republic Network and conservative activists in general. It was for a segment on Tom Brokaw's Nightly News Thursday dealing with the antiwar movement and how the internet has changed political activism.

To be honest, since the segment is about the antiwar movement, I assume we were brought in to provide some "balance", so I wouldn't get my hopes up too high about how much air time we get. However, I did strategically place a FR bumper sticker and baseball cap, as well as wear my FR jacket. At the very least, people will see the URL and hopefully we can pick up some new recruits to the cause!

NOTE - Check your local listings, NBC Nightly News is generally broadcast at 6:30 in most markets, but not always. Also, if the coverage is weak, please DO NOT call into NBC and complain. The fact that they called US and offered any exposure at all is a step in the right direction. In fact, I would suggest instead of bitching that we call and THANK THEM for providing this opportunity to explain our position.

We've been told by every media professional advising us, it is critical to get the media on our side, personally if not ideologically, if we want to improve and expand our ability to get our message on the air. Here is a segment from the FRN "How to Handle the Media" presentation on our last cruise presented by Reagangirl.

Your primary goal when dealing with the media is to get as much positive media coverage for your chapter and events as possible – as often as possible. But before that can or will happen you have to get the reporters and editors that you will be dealing with to take you seriously.

This requires that you present yourself professionally and treat the media professionally. Certainly many print and broadcast journalists are liberals, but treating them as adversaries is counterproductive. We want to make allies. YOU NEED COVERAGE AND THEY NEED A STORY! You don’t have to agree with every story they’ve ever written to make this situation work to your mutual benefit.

Readin' your article, JH2 ! . . .

ROFL ! . . .

Experts say Mohammed's arrest will lead to bin Laden's arrest, but somehow I doubt that. (How do you "arrest" stain on the walls of caves in Tora-Bora? No "expert" has offered a clue, though Clonaid is reportedly working on it -- just as soon as the sect returns from a meeting with green little aliens at a volcano in Auvernge.)

In Baghdad, dictator Saddam Hussein, whom liberals see as more legitimate than Bush because at least he won the popular vote (final returns showed Saddam got 150% of the vote in a highly competitive, though uncontested, national 'election last October), blasted Bush as "the despot of the century."

I actually saw on some whacko Socialist site a comment that at least Saddam was ELECTED, while Bush was SELECTED! Can you believe it? Sheesh !

Unsuccessful vice presidential candidate Barbra Streisand (Democrat). Picked by a desperate President Al Gore in his 2004 re-election race, hungry to shore up the female vote after photos of then-Vice President Bob Kerrey in a ménage with Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson were discovered, Streisand's foray into electoral politics was an unmitigated disaster. She even lost the middle-aged-Northeast-liberal-Jewish-woman's vote. "Papa? Can you hear me?" she sang to the incredulous Democratic Party conventioneers in Malibu that summer. Her campaign commercials were criticized by many in the media for, as NBC's Brian Williams put it, "being short on substance, and long on legs. And what's with the soft lighting? What, does she think we're idiots?" So insistent upon casting herself as her own campaign manager, pollster, handler, and media consultant, Streisand collapsed in a fit of exhaustion while pressing flesh in New Mexico. Hubbie James Brolin rushed her off to the hospital; she was never heard from or seen again.

Barbra Streisand is emerging from self-imposed retirement as an entertainer to help out her old pals in the Democratic Party. Two years after bidding farewell to her career as a public performer Streisand will sing nine songs at a benefit for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, organizers said September 24, 2002. I wonder how long it takes to get the makeup, etc. applied every day?
