[history]
A black Republican is the early favorite for a North Carolina House seat.
In the wake of the Trent Lott fiasco, Republicans are highly sensitive to the fact that with the retirement of Oklahoma's Rep. J.C. Watts, there is now no black Republican in Congress. "It is a worrisome development for a party trying to sell itself as the home of compassionate conservatism," clucks the Washington Post. Indeed, many Republicans are actively recruiting Mr. Watts to return to Congress if Sen. Don Nickles retires next year.

No one has ever accused me of being politically correct, but "He's No Dark Horse" seems a rather unfortunate choice of headlines.
To: nickcarraway
If the Republicans are not running minority candidates in minority districts that are being won by minority Democrats, then we need to get smacked upside the head.

GO VERNON GO!
Vernon Robinson would be a GREAT congressman and I'm going to encourage my parents, who live in the district, to vote for him. We don't need Johnny Isaksons and Connie Morellas in conservative districts!!!

Conservatives need to support Vernon Robinson!
This region of NC has a track record of electing RINOs to local and state office. The RINOs vote with Democrats on increasing spending, increasing regulation, and continuing the numerous euphemistically named social engineering programs. The core principle among this crowd is only to be "reasonable" and "get along. This is reinforced by a powerful good old boy clique of country club republicans who look after their own interests.
Part of the same district recently had a representative (Scott Decker) switch, Jim Jeffords-like, from Republican to Democrat in the NC State House when the Republicans finally won a majority of one. Conservatives will need to be prepared to fight to win the NC 5 primary.
Vernon Robinson is an outspoken and highly principled conservative. The same forces that do not want Eric Estrada on the Federal bench also don't want Vernon Robinson in the US Congress. It's time for NC conservatives to show that they have a backbone, that they will face down the Slander from the left, and that they will demonstrate the grit it takes to lead, to fight when necessary, to defend our country and our principles, and to govern.

(NC region has a history of Jeffords like RINO's who will oppose black conservative.)
