so we announced today that we are no longer expecting another resolution. and that we are calling another 60 thousand troops to the theatres we have in view... rummy announces these are follow on troops for AFTER the conflict... and that we KNEW and contingencied for 20 thousand to be there already... two or three weeks ago in kuwait, in view of the likelihood that Turkey would act like turkeys in this war as well as the last one in 91, when they also would not let us use their border to invade...

still seems like a lot more than just Iraq is at stake here.
Better too many than not enough... I do remember somalia.

I would say that with our substantial allies and forces in place, we are looking at overwhelming force as well as "shock and awe" enough for several invasions... perhaps.

If they are sure were coming, maybe they'll shoot saddam and invite us in on day 2. Wouldn't that be great? Very few casualties. I pray for it.

President Bush, please listen!

1. Declare that the treasure trove of recently captured Mohammed revealed contacts with Iraq.

2. Simply say the War on Terrorism and U.S. national defense trumps U.N. Security Council authority.

3. Take out Saddam NOW!

First Lesson: Never trust the U.N. or the French.

Second Lesson: Never, ever listen to Powell.

If "we" = Israel, yes.

If "we" = UK/USA, no.

USA needs to attack Iraq and then pincher Iran from East and West.

We can march on two nations at once.

I think you're right. A massive assault upon the Northeastern enclave of Islamists is in the offing.

It would not surprise me in the least if we destroy Irans nuke reactors and deal with the consequences of that action.

Iran will be a delicate task. The younger half of the nation wants Western reform, so we have to make sure that we don't do anything to change that.

Take out Iraq's leadership, topple the Iranian mullahs, revamp Syria entirely, and make a deal with Jordan to help make a "Palestinian state" (mainly in Western Jordan) once and for all. I think Egypt will fall in line, Pakistan will be held in check by India, and that leaves us with the Saudi royals extensive membership... goodness only knows what might be done there, since much of the nation's workforce is comprised of non-Saudis.

THEN, North Korea, finally THEN we can look your way, rescue your starving people, and liberate you from your insane leaders. China, by that point, should see that we're rolling, and the smartest move would be to let it happen.

Mop up Abu Zayyef in the Phillipines, and call it a won War on Terrorists (about time we had one of these open-ended wars run to completion).

Give the Peace Prize to GWB, and we have another 4 years in the White House, and a much longer run in both Houses of Congress.

What is there in the middle east that can fight this force collected there -- and to add a heavy armored division and a cavalry division to that force? There's nothing anywhere in the theatre that can deal with a U.S. heavy armored division, and they are not a follow-on force, they are the point of the spear.

The best that I can come up with is that they are a big message to various "neighbors" in the area to stay quietly and happy in their barracks and not even breathe across their borders. Iran, Syria, Turkey, Russia? They all could get that message: This "follow-on" force would cut through anything they can throw into the theatre like a ginsu through microwaved butter. Good excuse for everyone else to sit on the sidelines.

ezekiel 38 on the way?

Not in our lifetime. I always thought since 1991 happened, ezekiel 38 will be seen by our descendants.

If anything, I believe the administration is preparing for potential residual calamity with N. Korea. Nobody can deny they're flicking boogers at us right now.

This follow on force would cut through anything in the world other than a british or israeli unit with no problem. The only problem with the russians or chinese is the abrams might have to reload in combat after they kill 42 enemy tanks

I'm not filled with confidence when the plan keeps changing

You have no idea what the "plan" is, so stop wetting yourself.

All operational plans are dynamic.

"That was a rogue Army man. Wolfowitz testified under oath I believe that the Army man didn't know what he was talking about."

That was Army Chief of Staff Gen Shinsheki, a Clinton-appointee holdover whose sole claim to fame during his tenure has been the Chinese manufactured black beret debacle. Since that idiocy he has been either ignored or promptly contradicted by Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz.
