Man decapitated while fleeing police Author: RALPH ELLIE LINDSAY JONES; Staff Date: February 16, 2003
A narcotics traffic stop on the Downtown Connector turned deadly Saturday afternoon when a man climbed over the interstate railing, fell about 35 feet and was decapitated on a wrought-iron fence, Atlanta police said.
Officers in a marked car stopped the man about 4:30 p.m., as he drove south on the interstate above Auburn Avenue. The man, who has not been identified, stopped his vehicle and tried to flee by climbing over the railing, Lt. Danny Agan said.
Police still are investigating whether the man jumped or fell off the raised interstate.
"This is a new one for me in 29 years," Agan said.
The decapitation shocked people who work in the neighborhood. Gary White, an income tax preparer, came out of his office when he heard the commotion. "It's surreal," White said.
Agan said narcotics officers had been trailing the man for much of the day.
Agan did not know if the officers who tried to arrest the man would be placed on administrative leave. "This is not something normally covered under the [standard operating procedure] of the department," he said.
Snopes.com a urban legend page has this as undetermined but the event happened, it was also reported on local radio. The pictues are in question but it would seem tho be real. I doubt someone would create a very accurate hoax in only a few days.
here is the link to the photos WARNING VERY GRAPHIC!!!
The chainlink fence is there. Look in the lower RH corner. The red wall is too far back to see.
The spacing of the bars in the 2nd and 3rd photo are different from the spacing in the 1st photo.
That's due to parallax. Look at the first photograph on this page for a wider view of the scene. It may be staged (I don't think so), but even so, why would someone bother to stage it twice (resulting in inconsistent photographs)?
Well now THAT'S different. I stand corrected.
I had taken parallax into account in my initial viewing but it still looked off. Oh well.
Ummm...no, I've seen to many accident/crime scenes up close and personal. It used to be my job.
The blood around the (lower) body should have been a LOT more than what is evident from the photo(s).
Not only is there not a 'tremendous amount' of blood below the head on the fence, there is none. No drip patterns, nothing.
Not the height of the actual posts on the fence. Had he really fallen and this happened, some evidence of it protruding outwards, even with the dreads, should be visible.
Do you notice the direction the face is looking in? I cannot see how the body would have landed where and how it did with the head positioned as it is in the photos.
In short, unbelievable.
Did you bother to check the link provided in post number 62? The amount of blood in the photo with the body certainly seems to be what one would expect.
"Not only is there not a 'tremendous amount' of blood below the head on the fence, there is none. No drip patterns, nothing."
No drip patterns? What do you call the substance seen dripping from the rail directly below the head in this photo:
"Not the height of the actual posts on the fence. Had he really fallen and this happened, some evidence of it protruding outwards, even with the dreads, should be visible."
The height of the man's head is about the same as the height of the post above the top rail. If you look carefully you can see where the post has pushed up near one of the dreadlocks.
"Do you notice the direction the face is looking in? I cannot see how the body would have landed where and how it did with the head positioned as it is in the photos."
You neglected to factor the body bouncing and or rolling after impacting with the ground from a height of nearly forty feet. I would guess that he flipped on the way down so he was almost stretched out horizontilly facing upwards when he struck the fence. The fence post penetrated at the base of the skull and the weight of the falling body pulled the face forward before separating.
"In short, unbelievable."
What line of work was it you were in?
Used to be your job huh?
Somehow, I don't find that very surprising.
You're about as bad as my wife. Whenever anyone dies, that's her response when asked how the person died...
Poor guy.
