A narcotics traffic stop on the Downtown Connector turned deadly Saturday afternoon when a man climbed over the interstate railing, fell about 35 feet and was decapitated on a wrought-iron fence, Atlanta police said.

Officers in a marked car stopped the man about 4:30 p.m., as he drove south on the interstate above Auburn Avenue. The man, who has not been identified, stopped his vehicle and tried to flee by climbing over the railing, Lt. Danny Agan said.

Police still are investigating whether the man jumped or fell off the raised interstate.

"This is a new one for me in 29 years," Agan said.

The decapitation shocked people who work in the neighborhood. Gary White, an income tax preparer, came out of his office when he heard the commotion. "It's surreal," White said.

Agan said narcotics officers had been trailing the man for much of the day.

Agan did not know if the officers who tried to arrest the man would be placed on administrative leave. "This is not something normally covered under the [standard operating procedure] of the department," he said.
Snopes.com a urban legend page has this as undetermined but the event happened, it was also reported on local radio. The pictues are in question but it would seem tho be real. I doubt someone would create a very accurate hoax in only a few days.

LOL, sorry for the temper tantrum. But my ire was raised in particular by one pop up ad that gave me no way to click it off.

Neat little trick that the pop ups are apparently using now. NO way to get rid of the ad, I had to hit control, alt, delete to clear the ad.

What problem do you see with the angles?

I think the angles work. If he was falling somewhat parallel to the ground, or slightly on a feet-first angle, the spike on the fence could have entered through the back of the neck, and then stuck on the inner top of the skull.

If there was enough momentum, depending on his weight and the distance he fell, there could very well have been enough force to separate the skull at the neck. The neck and throat don't have much structure to speak of.

I agree. It looks fake. His head faces out and his body is laying on the wrong side of the fence. It doesn't look right to me.

I don't doubt the story but the 2nd and 3rd photographs are not real. They show the fence abutting a red brick wall and chainlink fence...there is no red brick wall or chainlink fence in the 1st photo.
The spacing of the bars in the 2nd and 3rd photo are different from the spacing in the 1st photo.
How did the head wind up placed with the fence spike into the neck? A wound that did not yet exist until the decapitation took place. How does it wind up in that position? And why are the eyes closed?

The cause of death was the same as anyone who has ever died on this planet.

Look carefully at the first photo with the body. You can see the chain link fence and red brick wall. With regards to the spacing of the palings on the Iron fence, the photos are from different angles thus making the spacing seem wider in the first photo. I see nothing to indicate that these are "fake" photos.
