Thank You!

I think that "filibuster" is a merely colloquial term that does not appear in the Senate Rules and that does not have a legal definition. Consequently, the use of the word is not, I believe, set.
To: Howlin
On the next slow news day I am going to make a quiz to see who knows what about various topics. I just got done learning about the Turkish constitution and its history, now I am working on Senate rules.
Maybe we could form a jeopardy team. LOL!
To: GOPrincess
I have been almost screaming that this was a win, win
for us, if the R's just stayed the course.
As another poster said,"this is a two wk
commercial against the dims."
Frist just put PBA on the schedule, lets see if the dims want to put up a fight on this also.
Frist has got them cornered, but doesn't want
to look confrontational. He is playing it
just right!!!
Don't forget the 9th circuit's ruling on "Under God"
We have them on the complete defensive.
To: Miss Marple
When we learned this in school, they forgot to tell us that sometimes we have as**** for representatives and it doesn't go very smoothly.

I think you are correct. I remember awhile back there was a thread on FR re: filibusters. I copied the link to the actual article but neglected to save the FR link. Here is the link to the article I read:

Sam Waksal told Martha Stewart and some socialite who was flying in her plane (can't remember her name), as well as his daughter and father that the cancer drug was dumped by the FDA. As such, the socialite called her ex-husband and told him, and all of them dropped their ImClone stock.
Martha's Broker/Walker tried to hang a 23-yeard old assistant on a stop/sell for the stock, but the kid turned, so they also have her and this broker on bribery charges.
Waksal cut a plea to get his daughter and father off. I think he snaked Martha to get it.

"You know, we need a graphic so we can understand this, don't we?"
I hear that! Wading through all this is more educational than my poli. sci. classes, LOL.

For me, I'm going to need something quite simple, maybe along the lines of Romper Room.

Don't forget how Hatch rammed three justices through Committe last week because Kennedy was trying for a "mini-fillibuster" by leaving so they couldn't vote.
Turns out these folks got 75% of the committe votes - crossing party lines. I think they have figured out something is coming down this week.

Thanks much to all for confirming that I've got a handle on understanding the upcoming possibilities in the cloture/filibuster process.
To: GOPrincess
I've been repeatedly calling Frist the last week. Told him there were millions like me who want Estrada confirmed.

You are assuming that the other insider trading perps are related in ImClone.
To: gov_bean_ counter
No, that wasn't my reply. I only stated what I knew about ImClone directly for the person who asked.

Great point. Can you believe that judgment being upheld coming down just as we are to go to war?! Makes the liberals look worse than ever.
Think you've got some good thoughts on the win-win nature of a 24/7 filibuster. According to Rush the Republicans are loathe to be part of the Congress that first had an actual filibuster against a judicial nominee, but hey, I figure it's not the Republicans who are doing it, let it come back to bite the Democrats. Was intrigued that he said the Republicans think if they take the plunge and call the Democrats' bluff on a cloture vote, they think the Dems may not have the votes willing to go on record.
To: hoosiermama
will Evan Bayh run for reelection? Your state seems to conservative to support a Daschle majority leader vote, even though he talks conservative...

According to Rush the Republicans are loathe to be part of the Congress that first had an actual filibuster against a judicial nominee, Abe Fortas was successfully filibustered in 1968.
