Why don't you plan one BIG successful rally to be held in D.C., with thousands of people in attendance, instead of a bunch of small, piddly ones?? Which is, BTW, an excellent suggestion Rush once made to a caller from Free Republic quite awhile ago.

You are an admirer of Rush's, are you not Angelwood?? It might be prudent if you would listen to his advice a little more often.

Thanks for your input. We busted our butts putting the word out about this rally. We contacted many groups, especially activist groups and our friends in the conservative community.

Thousands of people were informed about this rally in person by us through leafletting. Thousands of e-mails were sent. Everyone who came to FR in the last two weeks could learn about it. Millions heard about it on Hannity's radio show. Others heard about it on about a dozen other radio shows. If folks didn't come out, it's not because of a lack of effort on our part.

What we don't have is full-time paid activists and big money behind us. We don't have free bus rides, a bag lunch and a t-shirt to offer people. We don't have a decades-long history of continuous protesting like the left does. Nor do we get fawning pre-rally publicity in the local media like the left-wing demonstrations that alerts the general populace to their actions.

Also, unlike other markets, radio stations in this area don't want to risk alienating their liberal listeners by getting behind a controversial subject like Iraq in this liberal government town.

Conservatives come to D.C. once-a-year for the March For Life and then stay home the other 364 days. Those of us who stay active in the streets here the other days are few in numbers.

I respect you for the price you've paid, but as far as this rally goes--you're way off in your criticism.

Thanks for your comments. Where were you yesterday?

We plan all of our rallies to be big events and put our hearts, money, time and plenty of sweat into our efforts. You speak without knowing what we have done, what groups we have hooked up with, how much effort we put into getting news of the rallies out in the streets, press, radio and TV.

If everyone who was waiting for the BIG rally would just get out, bring friends and family, and show up at a rally, I imagine the numbers would be tremendous.

By the way, Rush was contacted more than once.

Hey Teri -- great news this week in the Courts and more to come at national and state levels ... the spawn of H. G. Well's ex-lover are being beaten soundly in the realms of the spirit, in intellectual ideas and laws.

If perchance a few DC rallies were had on Sunday -- it would be far easier for some of us to make.

And hooray for the constant and steady efforts of the DC Freepers! (Really it might best be VA-DC-MD-PA freepers since many regulars come from hours away in PA and MD.)

Terri???!!!!

We have tried. We tried very hard this one to get the word out.

I suggest that next time you pitch in and help instead of bitching. Connie Hair personally handed out over 3,000 flyers at the Pentagon on Friday to promote this.

Several of us have handed out flyers, done talk radio, put out press releases, etc. etc. etc.

What more would you have us do? It's on C-SPAN.

Why is there always some snide do-nothing know-it-all like you that always comes along and craps on the honest efforts of others?

Why don't you write one BIG powerful post to be put on FR, with thousands of people reading it, instead of a bunch of small, piddly ones?? After that OPUS, you can leave.

This is a joke, right? Dont you understand why these rallies are small?

BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE SHOW UP, BECAUSE LIMBAUGH DOESNT ADERTISE IT FOR US, BECAUSE ALMOST ALL RIGHT WING TALK SHOW HOSTS INGNORE US WHEN WE TRY TO GET TIME ON AIR TO PUBLICIZE IT, AND BECAUSE FREEPERS WHO LIVE IN THE AREA REFUSE TO SHOW UP.

Pardon my rant, but truth is truth. Without support from the media, which we cannot control, we have only FR to advertise these rallies, and that means if you heard of any of these rallies, you are responsible for not showing up like you just complained about.

'Pod, this post is so non-construtive it's not worth listening to. People who actually *do* work get to say things like that. Not armchair cyberspace warriors. I'd laugh that off with: why don't YOU do a big rally, take your own advice and you come get people to come out in 17 degree weather with windchill in the thousands with no local conservative talk radio, just syndicated. There's an idea. Why don't YOU do it. Hee hee.

For the rest of the peanut gallery, I note that the CSPAN pan of the crowd went from the stage (at 6 o'clock) to the monument (at 12 o'clock), 180 degrees. It didn't do the other half.

Great idea! If only we had thought of having more people attend. Excuse my sarcasm, but your post has got my Irish up.

Why don't you plan "one BIG sucessful" rally?

Your comments may have been well intentioned, but inartful. To the extent that you are disparaging ("piddly," "prudent . . . listen to his advice") the efforts of others, your comments are way off base.

I don't want to discourage constructive criticism, but this "get more people to attend" critique is like telling a golfer that his score would be lower if he got more holes in one. How would he do it?

Please tell us how to get more to attend. What would it take to get you to attend? Or did you attend a rally elsewhere?

I nominate you to plan "one BIG successful rally" toward the end of March. Are you willing to put your efforts where your mouth is?

You've struck a raw nerve with me. Unlike the leftists, it's harder to turn out our side in the streets because our side is winning in the halls of power.

Angelwood, kristinn, tgsltakoma and numerous other FReepers of the DC Chapter did an incredible amount of work on this.

Doctor Raoul coordinated an effort to publicize the rally on numerous talk shows. Cong. Dornan promoted the rally on Hannity's show. I got through to Ollie North's show & promoted it. My numerous attempts to get through to Laura Ingraham's show and to Mike Gallagher's show were unsucessful.

I sent over over 250 emails to various area Repubs, YAF, gun rights groups, American Legion posts and others that might favorably view such a rally.

Free the Hostages and Taxman, among others, were out in the cold and snow handing out leafletts promoting the rally.

Other efforts, too numerous to mention, were made.

What more should we have done?

Ah, you must be one of those keyboard warriors. When was the last time you were in the streets standing up for anything of principle? Are you afraid to show up anywhere? Or perhaps you are just timid, waiting for someone to do the work and then you will show up, to take some of the credit. Perhaps you fit into this category: In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man and brave, hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot. -Mark Twain

What did you do to make this or any other rally a success? Is it your lot in life to be nothing more than a whiner? Sorry Mr. TAdams8591, until you get out and stick your neck out sometime and take a chance and spend your valuable time and money to make something happen, just shut up!

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom... go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels nor arms. May your chains set lightly upon you and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams; 1776

I watched the rally on CSPAN earlier today. I admit that the attendance was disappointing, but that does not take anything away from the efforts of kristinn, Angelwood and the rest of the DC Chapter. They did a remarkable job of putting this rally on and even getting it on CSPAN where who knows how many other people across the country got to see it and perhaps will be inspired to host their own rallies.

Every week in Colorado a small band of dedicated people show up in four different cities to stand against the leftists. For the past 10 months mostly the same handful of people gather sometimes traveling from city to city to show that there is another side to the Iraqi situation. We grow by taking a stand and showing up. If eveyone was content as you to sit at their keyboard and do nothing but criticize nothing would get done.

So Mr. TAdams8591, here is my challenge to you. Start your own FReep in where ever you are. I see that you do not claim a location on your profile page. Are you embarrassed that you live close enough to DC to have attended the rally and chose to stay warm and comfortable instead of joining the FReepers?

Yes, stand in the street and file a report about your FReep. Until I see some evidence of you in public standing up for some principle that you believe in, you will be nothing more than an irrelevent little person whose opinion and criticism hold no weight and you are doing nothing than wasting band width.

You could of course do the same. If you could even muster up a 'piddly' one.
