A homosexual-rights group plans to launch a protest of MSNBC's decision to hire best-selling author and radio talk-show host Michael Savage to host a one-hour weekend show on the cable network, according to a report in TVSpy.com.
As WorldNetDaily reported, MSNBC last month tapped Savage to host the new program. The network said the show will feature "penetrating and provocative commentary and opinion from Savage, mirroring" his best-selling book, "The Savage Nation."
According to the TVSpy.com report, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, plans to announce the protest on Wednesday. In addition, the National Organization for Women is expected to notify NBC parent company General Electric and Microsoft (which co-owns MSNBC) that "it is very important that the corporations that own the media get the message: Profiting from hate will cost them the business of thinking consumers. That applies to GE, as well as Microsoft."
The San Francisco talk-show host, who holds a Ph.D., is outspoken in his criticism of the "gay-rights" movement and left-wing feminism. The report quotes Savage as saying that "the gay and lesbian Mafia wants our children."
This week, MSNBC canceled liberal Phil Donahue's weeknight show and recently hired former House Majority Leader Dick Armey as a regular commentator. Kim Gandy, president of NOW, claims the network has "created a situation that makes it impossible to get a moderate message out," according to the TVSpy.com report.
Although MSNBC had been in negotiations with ABC newsman Sam Donaldson to host a prime-time show, those negotiations have ended without a deal, network representatives said yesterday.
"We've done our homework on this," Cathy Renna, news media director for GLAAD, told the website. "There are a lot of different organizations concerned about giving a platform to Michael Savage."
In a statement, MSNBC said, "The addition of Michael Savage to the MSNBC lineup was made with the full awareness of his reputation for controversy and confrontation. We respect the right of those who wish to protest. However, we also strongly defend his new show as a legitimate attempt to expand the marketplace of ideas. By bringing our viewers a wide range of strong, opinionated voices, MSNBC underscores its commitment to ensuring that its perspective programming promotes no one single point of view. We encourage debate and we would neither expect, nor want, our audience to agree with everything on our channel."
"The Savage Nation," published by WND Books, has been No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list for four of the last five weeks.
There you have it. GLAAD embraces the 1st Amendment to spew their anti-heterosexual bile but seeks to halt opposing views. Their tactics smell fishy ...
Man I hope he does. I'd love to see DOJ break the backs of these leftist groups.
TRANSLATION:
Gay organizations need to shut up our enemy Michael Savage because he totally exposes and embarrasses us. He knows how filthy and duplicitous we are. How we are always trying to bring gay books, gay acceptance, gay couples at prom time, gay clubs, gay sex education, gay viewpoints into our schools full of impressionable young people.
Let's trust that Mr Savage Truly Savages the squalid little hatred-driven gangster bastards!

GLAAD News Pop Feb. 27, 2003 TALK-SHOW HOST MICHAEL SAVAGE THREATENS CRITICS IN RADIO DIATRIBES On his radio program today, talk-show host Michael Savage threatened to shut down GLAAD and other organizations who are asking MSNBC to reconsider its decision to give him a television show beginning next month. In his comments, Savage noted that in today's political climate, he would invoke the power of U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft and the Justice Department to shut down groups that took issue with his homophobic, racist and sexist attacks. Savage also claimed that in order to secure the votes of his audience in the next election, President George W. Bush would need to do him a "favor" and order an investigation of his critics by the federal government. Audio recordings and transcripts of Michael Savage's statements during his Feb. 27 radio show can be downloaded at www.glaad.org In the first of his three diatribes, Savage said, "You rats! You stinking rats who hide in the sewers! You think you can go after my income? You think you can kill my advertisers? You think I'm Dr. Laura? You think I'm gonna roll over like a pussy? You're wrong. I'm going to find out where you get your money from. You live by handouts, all of you. You live off grants, all of you. You're a bunch of beggars, but you don't know how lucky you are. If you continue this, we're going to go after your funding sources. And we will do everything we can within the legal realm to cut off that funding! We are also going to go to the U.S. Justice Department under John Ashcroft! What you are doing is illegal! You think it's 1965 and I'm South Africa? I've got news for you: it's not 1965 and it ain't South Africa! I'll cut your funding off, and if you break the law any further, I'll put you in jail!" Later in the program, Savage said, "I have millions of people who vote. Mr. Bush wants to get re-elected, and just consider me a politician at that point. I'm going to ask for a trade in favor. If they keep it up, my favor is going to be I want these groups investigated. If they're doing nothing illegal, fine. If they've crossed the line, then put 'em out of business." "Everything Savage said -- from the childish name-calling to his notion that the U.S. Department of Justice is his personal posse -- seemed the product of a seriously disturbed individual," said Cathy Renna, GLAAD's news media director. "It's clear that any Savage program would not be about dialogue, but about diatribes and name-calling. It would not be about commentary, but about bullying. After listening to his outbursts, I can't imagine why anyone at a respectable news network would offer a program to someone like this.
