Why are we giving a German company business??? Don't we have good American architects??? Yikes!
To: Lunatic Fringe
Just curious...
Is this an example of liberal architecture?
To: Dr. Scarpetta
It's from "Studio Daniel Libeskind-Berlin". They must have given the best input, not only the looks but also different other reasons. Maybe some sort of very good German safety ingenering ??!!

it will be 1776 ft high, does it tell you something aout your history? I think, that was a real cool idea and a clear sign for all terrorists.

Superman's Krypton Crystals???
I heard that it will be astronomically arranged so the sun shines on the footprint of the WTC on September 11 every year.

I liked this one, too. It's
far more inspired than the blocky drivel that came out of the first design go-around.
And I think at the same time the proportions complement with the NYC skyline far better than many of the other designs.

The architect is of Polish descent and an American Citizen... don't be so quick to judge.
DANIEL LIBESKIND
# Born in Poland in 1946, the son of two Holocaust survivors
# Came to the U.S. when he was 13; first sight of America was the Statue of Liberty
# Became a U.S. citizen in 1965
# Studied music before taking up architecture
# Signature design is the Jewish Museum in Berlin

Expansive, ambitious, generous, romantic.
Five towers surrounding the WTC site like a family holding hands. Grief and optimism are held in a balance.
A city in the sky, like a visitation from the 22nd century, beckoning us forward.
The proposal will not be built but the vision remains.

Did he finally finish his design for the Wynand building? I thought it was going up in Hell's Kitchen. IIRC, that was the one he was building at the end of the book.

That was an (apparently failed) attempt at humor, just letting you know that someone else got your "Howard Roark" reference.

How much you wanna bet? These are your terms?
I'll bet everything I have that Bush will see to it that the WTC is rebuilt as it was before.
I have no interest in everything you have and I doubt you would have much use for a car held together with duct tape and used chewing gum. Shall we say $25.00 given the winners name in the next freepathon following finalization of the construction?
That should be around the year 2225.

Looks kind of like my New Age friend's crystals. Funny you mention that. I thought it was rather bizzare that when the architect was explaining his design, he said it's layed out in such a way that on Sept. 11 at exactly the time the first jet hit the first tower the light will stream between the buildings into the center of the plaza. It sounded highly occultic, like Stonehenge or the pyramids. This is just weird. Very New Age. Very much like a pagan holy site.

The Federal government doesn't have a place in this decision They do if they lease a lot of office space...
To: Publius6961
That would happen after the place was built yes? Or can you pre-rent?

Lots of Cathedrals use that same light and shadow technique as well. It was very popular in the days before the light bulb came along.
I personally like the idea. Human memory fades, ceremonies die off as those directly involved grow old and die but as long as the building stands there will be a memorial to what happened there.
I like that. I like the 1776 Spire. The rest could use a little work.
