(I'm not always cranky.)
OK, here's my worry: Will Strom Thurman be physically able to take this?

"Frist tabled a motion to do the following: a) have a short debate, b) vote. They are trying to get a quorum present to vote the issue and Frist is pushing his hand. Frist is keeping them present to force a vote." I think I got it. When enough senators get in there, there will be a vote on whether to have a short debate and then voting on the Estrada nomination. Is that it?

I miss TLB telling us how they are doing it wrong...

I remember Carl reporting that and me hollering at the TV what big babys they are for letting the snow keep them from debating the dems! I was wrong, lol.

Playing not just hard-ball, but razor-sharp-spiked-ball is what Frist is doing now. Winning in these type of political fights is not making a Jimmy Stewart speech then fading to credits, it's a slow, methodical, ruthless wearing down of your opponents, and we haven't seen this since the late 50's briefly. Refuse to give up the floor, refuse to shutdown the Senate for the day, refuse to allow a quoram to dissolve. It's like it's the 1880's again! Back then, one of the strategies was to work the older Senators so hard they would collapse or die. With Strom and Jesse now out of harms way, it appears that we can force Byrd and Hollings into a collapsing situation. Hard ball: you wanted it, now you get to see it live on TV.
When you say it.... it sounds so interesting!

They don't sorry! THere must be a quorum(51 present ---I think) If the Senators aren't there the SAA calls all. As soon as a quorum is reached they may resume business. Then only enough Republican will show up forcing the democrats to be there to make the quorum. POKER

Thanks for posting this; it explains a lot. We're may be watching one for the history books.
To: Moosehead
Democrats only care about liberal minorities. period. this proves it. let them sleep in cots in the capitol - they would rather do this than allow a non-liberal minority judge on the court of appeals. disgraceful.
To: bobluvs
Senator Frist also spends one night a week with no sleep so in case he has to go without sleep his is well practiced at getting no sleep!
Maybe this is his designated night!

Strom Thurmond is retired, isn't he?
To: Anitius Severinus Boethius
Why do the Dems have to make sure there is a quorum?
To: Diddle E. Squat
Strom is no longer member of the Senate.
To: Diddle E. Squat
In the end Trent Lott was a team player, is still serving faithfully in the Senate, so let's heal any still lingering wounds over that. Thank you.
