just got c-span streaming video working.
I can't tell exactly what's going on, but it looks like war. I don't think the Pubies are going to give the dems any quarter.

The CSpan caption say that the Sergeant At Arms is involved in name only. The more I understand the less I know what is going on:)

We either have the votes to shut down the RATs or we are going to make them go into a full filibuster! Right now I am not sure which!

Maybe that's why he's called the Sgt. at ARMS. Has to reach really far to get those darned Senators to the floor!

THere must be a quorum in order to conduct any business in the Senate. If there appears to be an absence of quorum, the roll is called and business stopped. Those not present are sent for. Years ago, they sometimes had to wait days until the senators showed up.
If there is a real filibuster expect alot of this. It keeps the people awake and not able to "get their beauty sleep" Wish I could see HRC? Bet she looks bad and will look lots "bat-ter"

All I kmow it this isn't Trent Lott's senate anymore.

Earlier they were saying that they weren't going all night because of the snow. Yesterday, the Left Wing of Fox News was saying they wouldn't go all night because of the costs of security.
There's a whole lotta feinting going on here. I hope Saddam is watching how the new boys (and girls) in town work.

Daschle was objecting to the circumstances under which a vote might come to order. But Frist has made a motion that they vote at midnight and has called for the yeas and nays on that issue - objecting to modification of his ground rules. He's basically asking for a vote on whether or not to debate and vote by midnight - which only needs a simple majority. That means All the Dems will be scrambling to get back there with no sleep and will have to fillibuster at this point and maintain the floor in order to keep the vote from happening at midnight. Orrin in effect surrendered the Dem juggler to Frist and frist is biting.

I believe Sen. Hatch alluded to the fact that this was coming when he said something to the effect "I wish the filibuster would end and hope we don't have to resort to other tactics."

One other time when the SGT-At-Arms was instructed they found some senators hiding under their desks.

Interesting that all the action on this fillibuster comes so late at night.
