Frist just moved for the vote - called for the Yeas and nays on Estrada and then noted absence of a Quorum. Frist is forcing their hand. If they are going to stop the vote, it is going to bring on a traditional fillibuster at this point if I'm reading this right. I think we're about to get what we've been asking Frist for. Drink it up Freepers :)

I think they're voting aye or nay on the motion to request absent senators to return to the floor. Not sure how many they need.

I think that Frist is ready to call for the vote at midnight, but he needs a quorum of Senators. The Republicans are all there, but the Democrats are not. He called a roll call, and is now calling for a vote to instruct the sergeant at arms to roust the Senate (or something like that).

I don't thank I've felt this PROUD in a long time as when Sen. Frist took the floor and announced its time to Vote..

Not since earlier tonight when I saw our Commander-in-Chief singing along with the National Anthem, standing at attention behind the Marine Color Guard.

What a great night to be an American

If it goes to a vote we just need a simple majority, if the filibuster is on then we need 60 votes to confirm.

When the Majority Leader asked the Sergeant of Arms to get a Quorum the people from his office (Sgt of Arms) start calling in Senators to the Chamber so there is a Quorum present is the way I understand it.

The Senate leader called for the Sargeant of Arms
to roust Senators for a quorum. They now have the authority
to literally drag them there, if need be.

Just got back. No C-Span2 on my TV, so I have to follow the punches. I take it we made progress during the day? Frist appears to be ready to strike and force the Dems into a filibuster.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Daschle objected, though. I got lost in what Frist was saying after that, though.....something about giving senators (Dems) each up to an hour to speak before the vote....Daschle objected again.

Sorry if that's clear as mud.
