[history]
February 26, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - Iraq yesterday claimed it suddenly found a biogerm bomb. U.N. weapons inspectors hailed that as "cooperation," but President Bush said Saddam Hussein is just trying "to fool the world one more time."
The United States notes the R-400 biogerm bomb Iraq declared is one of 400 it was known to have in the 1990s. The rest are unaccounted for at present. Until now, Iraq has claimed it had no chemical or biological weapons.

It's amazing what half the US military on his border will make him do. If the UN is impressed now, imagine how impressed they will be when it's over.
However, I would not expect this to be a lightning quick war. It will take at least two weeks of bombing raids for starters. There might be delays as we arm freedom fighters. And, unless we are ready for everything he has, it would be insane to march straight into Bagdhad right away. Cutting off Bagdhad from the rest of the country would make more sense. Then let it wither on the vine.

Chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix said Iraq [...] reported finding two R-400 aerial bombs "including one that was likely to be filled with biological stuff.""Stuff"? Blix said the word "stuff"? Dr. Blix??

Then let it wither on the vine.It would be preferable to do it like that, but I doubt we will. I predict tanks rolling within two days of bombing. I think we will have to go straight for Bagdhad as well. Saddam is reportedly planning to trap a few million of his own people in Baghdad, surrounding it with a ring of oily chemical agent. We'll have to move in and prevent that. Saddam wants us to nuke Baghdad, making us responsible for the deaths of millions. We're going to have to get in there and take the casualties, I'm afraid.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but this stuff boggles my mind.
We know he had 400 of these.
After months of inspections, the UN has found (it's not their job to FIND) exactly 1 bomb.
No one knows where the other 399 bombs are.
And the UN says this is COOPERATION?!
I say evacuate the UN building in NYC, bring in demoliton experts, and implode that sucker. Then we can turn our attention to Iraq.

Dr. Blix went on to say, "Iraq is, like, so trying to cooperate."

Saddam is showing us that he has these weapons to use if need be while at the same time, his minions here are denying their existence.

It's amazing what half the US military on his border will make him do. Agreed. Part of me has a sneaking suspicion that GWB is not so much rattling the sabre of the US Military...but placing the point of the sabre at Saddam's throat while applying gentle pressure...counting on Saddam's cowardice and desire to hold on to power to force him to comply.
It may not be necessary for our forces to go in at all and I suspect that the our President may have had this planned all along. It would be a win/win situation.

OH NO- the dreaded Iraqi "Stuff" bomb. Those are the worst! Thank God there's only one and that the valiant weapons inspectors found it.
