***Disney To Desecrate Crockett And The Alamo***

I just heard Roger say the "new" Disney Company, (one which Walt would not have had anything to do with) is planning on making a movie called "The Alamo" designed to destroy the memory and image of all the heros who fell in battle
Turning them into drunks and "white men" slave owners, the new picture is supposed to undo all the good Walt did with Fess Parker in the 50's
Obviously now controled by the dark side, and destined to run the company into bankrupcy, this movie will harm Disney in a way the Bomb damaged Heroshima
You'd think they would have learned something from "Dinosaurs"
Walt Disney is being taken over by Californians with Chit for brains, and no partirotism

Here's one review of the script It doesn't do a lot of good to argue when we don't know the facts....I'm digging for more recent stuff, but this doesn't look as bad as it was made out today on Rush's show.

Viggo Mortensen, Ethan Hawke, Billy Bob Thornton and Russel Crow? This reminds me of the World's Worst Lord of the Ring Cast thread a while back. At least Hawke is from Austin and Billy Bob is from Little Rock, but Viggo is a New Yorker and Russel is an Aussie. :)

This script review was from July 02. The important thing is the script review. The casting is not accurate and was mostly supposition. Only BBThorton is still around of the 4 you mentioned. Am I crazy about that? Probably not, from a political view stand point, but the guy can act.
Visit the main site and look around for the final cast. Filming began this month and finishes in May. From what I could gather, the script has not changed significantly from the time of this review.

No. The percentage of revenue from overseas has been rising rapidly in recent years (understandably with the increasing prosperity in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Russia, and Asia)....Well, I'll be dog gone, I didn't know what. Thanks for the info, LenS. You do learn something new everyday, esp. here on FR.

Wait a minute.
I was once told that the best movie about the Titanic is a now nearly-forgotten B&W film called "A Night To Remember". Surely this must be the case with the Alamo. This movie starring the Duke couldn't possibly have been the only movie made re: this historical event. Was there another, possibly better, now nearly-forgottten version made earlier?

Is it true that there going to be computer animated singing squirrels in this version?
Not if Ross Bagdasarian [AKA David Seville] has anything to say about it.

Was there another, possibly better, now nearly forgotten version made earlier? There was the 1937 black-and-white Sunset Productions production Heroes of the Alamo taken over by Columbia and released by Columbia production with some changes in billing, giving Lane Chandler and Rex Lease top listings alongside Earle Hodgins, who played Stephen Austin. Lease portrayed Travis and Chandler played Crockett's part.
The 1955 Republic telling of the Alamo story was The Lost Command, which starred Stirling Hayden as Bowie and Arthur Hunnicut as Crockett. I understand the Disney folks are considering Billy Bob Thornton to play Crockett in this remake, and I don't quite believe that dog will hunt. And they'll be playing the film against Mel Gibson's fourth Mad Max offering and a major WWII story now in preproduction looking for location scenes. They could as easily lose as much money in this production as John Wayne did in the 1960 version.
Do that mean what I think it do?

But in 1836 Texas, slavery and drinking were "normal". Read, "no one would have paid any attention to it". But 2003 hollywierd, that's all they'll pay attention to.Drinking and slavery have always been controversial. In fact, if you had a slave in 1836 Texas you were technically breaking the law: Mexico had already abolished the practice several years before.

I've heard many people say that a 1950s movie called "The Last Command" is the best film ever made about the Alamo. But it's so obscure that I've never seen it.
