Maine is a very liberal state and the teachers union is a key player in maintaining Democrat control here. There are indications that this might be a coordinated effort by the teachers union as complaints have come in from as much as 300 miles apart. This is outrageous and should be elevated to national news!

In 1990, the Supreme Court decided Perpich v. Department of Defense. Governor Dukakis was trying to limit the federal government's deployment of the Massachusetts National Guard (because of opposition to U.S. foreign policy). The Court found that Dukakis unconstitutionally interfered with the federal government's provision of national defense.
If a governor may not interfere with his state's national guard as an act of protest against U.S. foreign policy, it is obvious that public school teachers may not either. It undermines the national defense if, as an act of political protest against the impending war, Maine teachers demoralize American service personnel serving in the Gulf by harassing their children for the very reason that their parents are serving their country.

I would not put it pass the LW scumbag 'teachers' to tell little kids that their military parents are killers and are going to kill babies.

I Just sent this e-mail to every state rep in maine:
This is good for Maine tourism? First you guys attack the President and the troops now you stand by and let teachers attack the kids of those who go and fight?
Yup, the way to balance the budget is to drive away the tourist.

This story is now a big time story. The WSJ website has it as a lead story. Thanks to Eva for this find: BY JAMES TARANTO Tuesday, February 25, 2003 3:18 p.m. EST Great Moments in Public Education
Bloggers Joe Katzman and Trent Telenko pick up on a disturbing report from WABI-TV in Bangor, Maine (video is here), that children of Maine National Guardsmen who've been deployed to the Gulf have found themselves facing schoolyard taunts--not from fellow students but from "antiwar" teachers. Here's a quote from the WABI report:
Alan Grover, WABI-TV: "What the kids are facing is hearing that their mother or father is a bad person for taking part in the confrontation with Iraq; comments that are coming from teachers. That's according to officers with the Guard's Family Assistance Program who've been traveling throughout the state this week. The officers report that such incidents are relatively few in number but that they've occurred in practically every region of the state."
Maj. Andrew Gibson: "Some kids have even reported that . . . teachers have said things to them, specifically, about the . . . unethical nature of their parent going off to fight."
Most of the children involved, WABI reports, are between seven and nine years old.

Forget all the discussion, let's just do the good old fashioned amercian thing and sue their sorry asses. If any of the student/victims in Maine needs the name of a good lawyer who can take these so called "teachers"/sadists for every penny they own, let me know. It's payback time.

Liberal is a kind word - I live in the area pushing hard for socialized medicine (of course, they don't call it that). I came back to Maine, foolishly remembering it from my youth as a state of individual liberty - it's now gone from "As Maine goes, so goes the nation" to "As Maine goes, so goes Vermont" and last November, "As Maine goes, so goes Maine" - and I am ashamed. Let's all contact WABI (
wabi@wabi.tv) and thank them for their report - you won't find it on any other station here!

World Net Daily has an article (probably posted a few hours ago).
The link is HERE .
Somebody should create a new thread for the WND article to keep the story alive. I'm pressed for time, or I would.

I would tell my student to respond back in a very polite, professional manner but...I would not expect my student to sit and listen to dribble from a leftie. It would be the right of the student to express free speech and I would certainly support my student to do that ESPECIALLY when her/his mom, dad or sibling is fighting for our freedoms. It works both wah Teach....both ways.
