Operation Infinite Freep-Support Our Troops Rally, Columbia, Mo. 02/22/03

Once again, five Mid-Missouri Patriots turned out at the Columbia Post Office to counter the message of the anti-war protesters. Zip, Prov, DogRobber, and BlueSage, with Freeper Timmy joining us for his first time, dressed warmly and held signs with messages for our troops (and for the protesters). As usual, the protesters did not appreciate our freedom of speech. Though we are few, we seem to be able to do more than our part in the area of irritating them. Our signs stating that Saddam thanked them for their support, and listing Saddam’s weapons as: chemical poisons, anthrax, and peaceniks, seemed to get their special attention. They kept wondering about the anthrax. They did not argue the other two weapons.

One peacenik arrived in what can only be described as a “peace wagon.” On the back she had written “Saddam Aliakum” in green paint on the bumper. Aliakum means “peace be with you” in the form of a respectful greeting, so I suppose this peacenik respects and greets Saddam the Butcher as friend and comrade. Weird, ain’t it.

We had an additional pleasure of meeting the mother of one of our local servicemen. She stopped by to see what our support rally was like. She enjoyed the sign thanking her son for his service. We hope he gets to see it. We enjoyed her visit, and wish her son, and all of our wonderful service men and women Godspeed!

Several media photographers were milling around between the two sides and seemed to be making an effort to actually listen to both sets of opinions. If they actually report on our small group who insists are walking against the wind in our support of our country and military, we will have made headway.

Note: According to a radio announcement, there is to be a “Pro-America Rally” at the Boone Court House on Thursday evening at 6:00 pm. We do not have details yet, but are prepared to attend. If we can manage, we'll post a report after the fact.

There is a pro-America rally at the Boone County Courthouse March 27, at 6:00. It's being sponsored by the radio station, 93.9.

I just got these e-mails from overseas in response to the pics and comments I sent yesterday. They're meant to be shared with y'all.

From my Senior Chief buddy on the USS Briscoe:

"When I read your messages and look at the rally-pics, it makes me proud to be out here and a BIG part of me wants to be shoulder-to-shoulder with you all. I can't say THANK YOU, enough for your loyal, sincere and undying SUPPORT for us!"

I'd sent the pics to David and Edward in case they didn't have them, though I assumed they had. hehe! I wish I could have seen the looks on their faces when they saw the sign! I got this from David on the USS Constellation:

You guys rock, blue! Sorry I'm so late getting to read your whole report. When I saw David and Edward's names on that sign Saturday I had to post the link and picture at the Canteen. How cool is that for our active duty military to see, with their own eyes, the tremendous support that they have, and especially from you Columbia FReepers. Thanks Patriots!!
