On Feb 13th, 2003 President George W. Bush gave a speech to the thousands of Sailors
and their families attached to ships homeported at the U.S. Naval Station in Mayport, Florida.
Here are some of their reactions.
"What did you think of your Commander-in-Chief's speech?"
Here's their response:
1. "It was a very good speech. It gave that camaraderie back to us
I think we lost it for a while our ship was getting refurbished. His speech gave us back that 'umph!' we needed. I liked how he said we are going to go kick Saddam's butt. Saddam's been pussyfooting around and the United Nation's told him that he has had his last chance
the people of Iraq aren't the problem, it's their leader and his underlings."
2. "I'm highly encouraged by what the President said. I like how our Commander-in-Chief came down to the 'deck plate level' to talk to us, because we're the ones that have to do his will, and he showed that he cares by coming to see us. He gave us confidence to go do what we've got to do."
3. "He gave a great speech. He said 'thanks' to the troops here; he sent a message to the U.N. and a message to Saddam Hussein. The people onboard my ship are going to be talking about it for days and also reading about it on Military.com. Now we've got to head back to the ship to get it ready
"
4. "The President isn't afraid to say what needs to be said to get the job done. He's not politicking and not mincing words. We don't need that -- we've got way too many serious things going on. We've got countries like France and Germany that want to play games right now and they've a record of doing that, so I'm not surprised. It's good to have a leader that's willing to step up to the plate when we need it most and a speech like this for the 'Blue-shirts' means everything to them because they're getting ready to leave their families for six months and it's great for them to know that their leader is behind them."
5. "The President's speech was very exciting and very emotional. We're very nervous at home wondering about what's going to happen. I think we should stop politicking and go get the job done, so my husband can get back home and let us continue on with our family life." (Quote from the wife of a Navy helicopter pilot.)

Sure, if it doesn't seem like it is an endless ramble. I do tend to have that rambling babble effect! How are you today? Hope it is nice and sunny because I'm not seeing either here as far as weather!

A rally in support of the men and women of the United States Armed Services attracted thousands of participants. The event was held downtown at Monument Circle at noon on Saturday.
"We want our fighting men and women to know we are behind them," said the event's organizer, Rob Greene.
David McIntosh, a 2004 Candidate for Governor, also spoke at the rally. Other featured speakers include State Senator Luke Kenley and Indiana's most decorated Marine, Don Myers.
Hoosiers from across the state attended the rally.

Thank you for the ping yesterday. The writer is very talented. Unlike MoJo, his/her words are very coherent and it actually makes sense. Thanks for sharing it.
As for the letter to President Bush, I will not be sending it to him. He's got a million other things to worry about at the moment.

Great write-up areafiftyone...the way you guys braved the rain and cold weather is a true testament to your support of our troops.
I'd like to to post a picture from Khepera from the Indianapolis Rally:

It is a great letter. The weather is sunny here in Texas. It has been rain and cold. I hope winter is over here for this year.

This is one of many rallies started because of Glen Beck. He began promoting these rallies because he was so disgusted with the noise the anti-war crowd was making. His initial inspiration came from KLIF in Dallas, a sister station, who was doing a pro America, support-our-troops rally.
Americans want to do something to encourage our president and the troops. This gives us an outlet by which we can show a little of our gratitude.

Yes, isn't that great. We highlighted quite a lot of rallies on yesterday's Canteen thread. I'm glad to see more being added.

I'm doing great, life can't get any better...I'm gonna be a grandfather!
I love the way you put your heart into words. I know a little bit about writers (I are one, after a fashion). It's a whole lot easier to make words look and sound right than it is to put the feelings down on paper to begin with. You have a talent...and we love you for it!

Thanks HiJinx, great pics.
All;speaking of pictures, our Senior Chief from the Tarawa has sent a power point presentation that is wonderful but I can't not figure out a way to post it. My tiny website won't allow me to post anything but gifs and jpegs, this is a slide show. I also tried to see if I could capture each slide but I only have the Power Point Viewer, not the entire PPS software. Any ideas out there, he was really hoping the Canteen could see it and it is great!
Thanks, ping me if you can help.

e-mail it to me, and I will either link the presentation or break it out into separate slides for viewing...I'll send the address via FReepmail.
