Ted Olsen, solicitor general got one of the calls from flight 93 from his wife. It would have been hard to dismiss him. It was a bunch of solid citizens. On the WTC, the truth would have emerged, almost certainly.
Aside from the fact that it isn't a rtefinery but a petro farm, I have no problem with your statement. What I have a problem with is the casual dismissal of terrorists as a possible cause of this explosion.
All it would take is one man with 10 pounds of plastique and a yearning for 72 virgins.
But it's so much fun and they make it so easy. I've seen people trying to link rent-a-cops macing somebody and causing a stampede in Chicago to terrorism, I've seen somebody trying to link a poorly-thought out fireworks display causing a fire to terrorims, I've seen people immediately discard all previous history of industrial accidents, transportation accidents, etc. after 9/11, that jump on the "OH MY GOD IT'S TERRORISM, BUSES/PLANES NEVER CRASHED BEFORE 9/11, BUILDINGS DIDN'T CATCH ON FIRE, CHEMICAL FACILITIES NEVER BLEW UP OR CAUGHT ON FIRE, IT MUST BE TERRORISTS" bandwagon.
I don't have a problem with people who say we should consider terrorism here and there when something high-profile happens. I do have a problem with people who ignore all history before 9/11/01. Being from Texas and having many relatives that worked in the oil industry (including an uncle who worked for Red Adair), this kind of stuff, to me, is blown out of proportion (pun intended). Hell, half the people who immediately assumed this was terrorist-related probably never heard of the Texas City explosion back in the late 40s.
It boggles my mind that many are now so scared that they try and link everything these days to terrorism. If they were able to link it all to terrorism, then we need to give this administration the heave-ho and get somebody in there that can keep it from happening. But I think they (Bush and the administration) are doing a good job of keeping terrorists out of this country - several holidays and large events have happened since 9/11 and nothing happened, and with the noose being put around terrorism here and there, you would think they would have struck already, rather than wait until it's almost impossible to pull somethign off. I don't agree with their methods (PATRIOT ACT among others - INS and Clinton doing their job would have stopped or crimped 9/11, not anything in the PATRIOT ACT), but I think they are doing a good job.
If this WAS NOT a jihad attack, it served several very useful purposes:
#1: The THREAT is out there, is very real, and has not gone away.
#2: There is a growing awareness among Americans that the threat does indeed exist.
#3: There is a willingness on the part of the majority to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that could lead to jihad attacks to pertinent law enforcement authorities.
#4: There is a growing undercurrent of bitterness and animosity among some against Americans eager and willing to do all they can to support President Bush's anti-terrorism program and become proactively involved in it.
Yeah, maybe a little over the top with the "scum sucking" part. Sorry. :-)

If I had been on that flight where Richard Reid tried to set his shoes on fire, he wouldn't have been around for sentencing in Boston a few months ago.
In fact, they would have needed a spatula to peel him off the floor after I was done with him.
Do you like posting jpegs? Are you a redneck?
Please. It's 'toeing'; really, it is. It's 'toeing the line'...that's the English locution.
Toeing the line. Like at the start of a foot-race.
Sorry. I just snapped. I've seen it too often lately.
I'm an ornery old coot. ;^)
I most humbly acknowledge my error.
And might I say...your use of the word "coot" is quite becoming!
Pronunciation: 'küt
1 : any of various sluggish slow-flying slaty-black birds (genus Fulica) of the rail family that somewhat resemble ducks and have lobed toes and the upper mandible prolonged on the forehead as a horny frontal shield
2 : any of several No. American scoters
3 : a harmless simple person; FELLOW
(bowing gracefully) :)
The only jpegs I post are on my profile page.
And I'm not a redneck -- I do know that a Volvo is not part of a woman's anatomy.
Seriously!?
Next, you'll tell me there is no such thing as REDNECK REPARATIONS!
