There is, of course, one big difference between now and then. America wasn't a player in 1935. Europe handled it. Now America is the lead player, which may be just as well.

The fate that welcomed Mussolini and his band of facists to hell, awaits the Islamofacists of Iraq, Iran and Syria.
El Duce Mussolini seen "hanging around" when the war ended for them!

One GOOD thing about Mussolini and Hitler - they are both still DEAD! That is the ONLY good thing I can say about either of them.

Just how old is Deedes? He implies he was alive in 1935 and a witness to these events.

Excellent history lesson. I guess it's true, those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

In the Laval-Mussolini talks held in 1935 France acquiesced to colonial Italy's boundaries in North Africa and the Sahara, and looked the other way as Italy used poison gas to subdue the peoples of Ethiopia and Eritrea. It was the first great post-WWI acquiescence, but certainly not France's last.

If you want peace, prepare for war. If you want war, protest it with all your peacenik friends.

I hate to ask this, but where was Abyssinia? I know it was near Egypt, but I'm having a hard time finding out where its borders were.
