I worked in criminal court as a court reporter, and I was allowed to carry a gun to and from work. Then left the .9 mm in the Marshal's office while in court. Heck, my judge had a Glock in his desk drawer in the courtroom. His whole staff new how to shoot.

My mom is a court reporter too (in LA), and I think had to take a depo out on the West Side today. She usually drives through downtown too...I hope she missed this!
