One East European diplomat said Chirac had spoken in a tone that not even the Soviet Union would have used with its Warsaw Pact clients during its 40 year dominance of the region. One observes Chriac's behavior and recalls the origins of the Russian revolutionaries. All the best coffeehouse intellectuals aspire to be dictators, and visa-versa.

There are many lists out there of German, French and Belgium products to boycott. Is there a list of New Europe products to buy (other than the obvious Spanish and Italian wines and Polish vodka)?

France's outburst will underline suspicions among the eight ex-communist states due to join the European Union next year that Paris expects them to show humble gratitude for being granted membership.............
Yeah, you know, like the French displayed their gratitude after two World Wars and a rebuilding.

re: Paris expects them to show humble gratitude for being granted membership)))
I thought they were being bullied INTO the EU, rather than the other way around...? Certainly Ireland doesn't want in, and a lot of the Brits don't. If the EU excludes Eastern Europe, than what's left except Old Europe?
The French are continually accusing the US of lacking "nuance" in diplomacy, but Chirac is acting tres, tres, how you Zay? Lak zee cowboy?

France lost me when it refused to let our pilots enter it's airspace to carry out the Lybia raid under Ronald Reagan. Chirac seems determined to destroy what little respect it had left. He's doing a good job.

Only this time, maybe we don't want to buy from the beurs, who are presently burning synagogues in France. Ladies, burn your Louis Vuitton, and buy a Coach bag!
