When I saw this on Drudge, I sent the following letter to the editor of NY Times. Normally, I would not think they would run it but they almost ran a similar, conservative letter before...they require letters to be EXCLUSIVE to them.

Regarding your story about liberal donors working to find a liberal Rush Limbaugh....I believe it will fail for several reasons.

Firstl, nobody is as articulate and entertaining as Rush Limbaugh. Second, the mainstream media is overwhelmingly liberal right now. If I want liberal opinion, I can get it instantly at 98% of the Broadcast media, newspapers and magazines right now. It is there already...so your liberal radio network is the classic solution without a problem.

As you pointed out, conservatives are alienated by the liberal agenda of the media. When clear-thinking conservatives on talk radio came along, we all felt FINALLY...someone can articulate the conservative views held by most of the people. There was a tremendous vacuum that was filled.

Liberal radio has tried before and failed every time. The bottom line: America does not support the liberal beliefs of large, bureaucratic government, higher taxes, massive social spending, etc....we want freedom, we prize individual achievement and want govt. only to clear the hurdles to our success...rather than blocking our success as they increasingly do.

These rich liberals should be encouraged to spend as many millions as possible in this sure-to-succeed venture . That will leave less to spend on the next election. Trying to topple Rush, Sean, and Michael will be as effective as toppling Jeb.

Liberals are well-known for p**s**g away money on hopeless causes.

The liberals still don't get it...radio--particularly talk radio--is a craft that must be learned and honed. It takes time to develop a talk radio talent. Rush spent years as a DJ and talk show host in Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Sacramento before hitting the big time. Sean Hannity got his start in Huntsville, AL, making $250 a week. Michael Savage began on a back water station in the Bay Area. Neal Boortz worked at almost every station in Atlanta before he signed on with WSB and got a syndication deal; he made so little money from radio that he always had a second job before joining WSB-AM. And the list goes on of "successful" conservative hosts who've learned their craft before become "overnight" successes.

Of course, the liberals don't understand this. They believe they can plunk anyone down in front of a microphone and produce a hit show. Remember Mario Cuomo's talk show? Or how about the aforementioned Jim Hightower? Or even Alan Colmes, who has a long track record in radio. Their nationally syndicated shows failed not only because their ideas are bad, but because they're also lousy broadcasters. Al Franken will also fail, miserably. Marginal success on SNL 25 years ago--as a writer--doesn't make you a prime candidate for success in talk radio.

Liberals overlook the obvious. They already have this on NPR stations.
