The liberals still don't get it...radio--particularly talk radio--is a craft that must be learned and honed. It takes time to develop a talk radio talent. Rush spent years as a DJ and talk show host in Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Sacramento before hitting the big time. Sean Hannity got his start in Huntsville, AL, making $250 a week. Michael Savage began on a back water station in the Bay Area. Neal Boortz worked at almost every station in Atlanta before he signed on with WSB and got a syndication deal; he made so little money from radio that he always had a second job before joining WSB-AM. And the list goes on of "successful" conservative hosts who've learned their craft before become "overnight" successes.

Of course, the liberals don't understand this. They believe they can plunk anyone down in front of a microphone and produce a hit show. Remember Mario Cuomo's talk show? Or how about the aforementioned Jim Hightower? Or even Alan Colmes, who has a long track record in radio. Their nationally syndicated shows failed not only because their ideas are bad, but because they're also lousy broadcasters. Al Franken will also fail, miserably. Marginal success on SNL 25 years ago--as a writer--doesn't make you a prime candidate for success in talk radio.

Using a big fat idiot as the benchmark for obtaining success sure doesn't say much for anyone who wants to compete with said idiot, for failure will be an awful mirror to look in.

But hey, failure having tried and such is noble right?

You got that right. The difference between sucessful talk radio hosts is that they have worked very hard for it whereas liberals seem to like things handed right to them. I just love how the party of "the working man" and "the little people" always seem to operate from the top down.

Secondly, the democrats still don't get it. I believe this is just another knee jerk reaction to Bush and the GOP victory last November. They refuse to believe that it was their "weak on national defense/visit Baghdad/anti-American/hold up Homeland Defense" views that the Murrican Pipple did'nt like, but rather that the wholly owned liberal media that controls 90% of the industry could not get their message out. In fact, exit polls show that their message DID get out, but was soundly rejected.

Franken is going to have a tough time doing this, but I think it will last longer than his last sitcom, Lateline, which lasted a whole 6 weeks.

"Of course, the liberals don't understand this. They believe they can plunk anyone down in front of a microphone and produce a hit show." That's because the looney left thinks everything can be solved by throwing money at it. They've proved that a thousand times with their ideologies. For a group that constantly trys to berate conservatives as the "rich", they sure throw a lot of good money after bad. Of course, we all know that the most popular liberal trick and to accuse others of what they are doing. Liberal talk show? No, it will never work. Radio is too personal. Radio is something each and every individual can listen too when and where they please, without fear of reprisal or ridicule, or judgement. The liberals don't get it...they think this kind of radio of a perfect vehicle for indoctrination, and it is not. Rush is famous for vocalizing what the rest of us already think. We're not his "robots", like the left says. Look at it this way, you would listen to a show about say..fixing cars, when you have an interest or need to fix a car. But if that show told you that putting air in the tires would tune up the engine, you'd blow him off immediately, cause he's full of crap. Same thing, when that lib host starts his daily "clinton-izing" on the air, the deafening click of off switches will resound across the nation...not to mention what will happen when the "Freepers get the names and email addresses of their sponsors. ;)

At one time early in his radio career Michael Reagan was paid in ball caps. Oh, Happy Presidents Day! Hail the great Reagan, the greatest President since Lincoln!

Thank you! You finally gave the real answer to liberals' lack of success in the media.

bad, but because they're also lousy broadcasters.

They don't feel they need to put any actual work in their broadcasts because they believe their positions are so totally self evident that they don't have to back them up logically or with anything like facts. Actually they must believe in the obvious self-evidence of liberalism because it just is not amenable to rational analysis.

Exactly right! The libs think they can centrally plan their way to successful talk radio just like they think they can centrally plan everything else. One of these days they're going to get tired of tripping over all those stacks of failed five year plans.
