Millions of protesters - many of them marching in the capitals of America's traditional allies - demonstrated Saturday against U.S. plans to attack Iraq.
In a global outpouring of anti-war sentiment, Rome claimed the biggest turnout - 1 million according to police, while organizers claimed three times that figure.
In London, at least 750,000 people joined in the city's biggest demonstration ever, police said. Berlin had up to half a million on the streets, and Paris was estimated to have had up to 100,000.

You know, I am getting tired of "Europe" being confined to only Britain-France and Germany. Eastern Europe is a part of Europe, and they are thoroughly ON OUR SIDE!!! When all those Western Europeans were protesting us in the 70s, almost every single resident in Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc. was praying for the US to prevail, because they know what it's like to live under a dictatorship. These Euro-weenies in the West (thanks to the USA) have never known such a thing. Their opinion means nothing, as far as I'm concerned. New Europe is going to walk all over Old Europe, because they value the things that Old Europe merely take for granted.

Bush better get on with this Iraq war.
Otherwise, you can bet the rent, world opinion will change the course.
Personally, I don't give a rats ass about world opinion, but It will have an effect.
If I had it my way, I would pull our troops out of all countries and turn American into a country with real borders and and put America first for a change. Screw these nations that hate us. Let's keep our food and our money right here.
Being dependant on these nations will eventually paint us into a corner. A corner that we do not want to be in. It will only get worse. Most countries want to see us on our knees. Bet on it.
I say, turn our front door into a freaking gun port. To hell with them.
IMHO.

Our President is holding back, Only until he gets a big enough hammer in place, then we'll see if he continues to "hold back". Somehow, I doubt he will.

Agree. I wish to revise and extend my remarks.
Anything that an "Old European" is for, we should be against or....

What I was trying to get across is that it was a small percentage of people against the war especially in Paris. On CNN you would have thought 50% or more people turned out the way they were talking.
Pres Bush would never allow protestors to influence his decisions nor should he.

Let's get out of the U.N. and Nato. Bring home all our forces deployed overseas, including South Korea.
When the sh!t hits the fan somewhere on this planet and there is a war to be fought, we'll just tell the world we are peace loving people and hate war.
We will only defend the 50 states and we will do it with nuclear weapons.
We will no longer give aid to any countries also.
I wonder if that would shut them up.

If you think today's protests are large, just wait until we tell them we're pulling out?

Our President is holding back... the longer he does, (while calling for war) the better the chance that we will loose him as our president in 2004...
I can totally sympathize with you there. I am finding it very difficult to be patient while the left tries feverishly to chip away at Bush's credibility. I am confident, however, that, based upon his integrity and his respect for the military, Bush is making his decisions concerning invasion based upon military considerations.
Our supplies of munitions was terribly depleted over the last decade, and it has taken us this long to resupply. We also need to position our troops in the right places and train them for this particular undertaking. When the pieces are in place, and the time is right, we will proceed.
What we need to remember is that when the US leads, the world will follow. Don't lose heart. That's what the left is counting on.

What? Put America first for a change?
I agree completely with your post. It time America protects it's own borders and people right here at home. Enough of Europe, the communist UN and the rest of these America haters. To hell with them all.
Fortress America? I am all for it.

Iraq, strangely enough is not the issue. The real issue is the future of western civilisation...we must be grateful that at this particular time in history we have in office
men and women who have the foresight and the moral clarity to act in its defense.
History is replete with anti-war protestors, pacifists and
their Pied Pipers. On the other hand, stand the visioneries and determined leaders who have always been proven to be
right.
Please do not confuse the rhetoric of the media as a guideline of popular sentiment, as the 2002 elections
have just recently shown us they are invariably wrong.
You are correct however, in inquiring as to the reasoning of these protestors. It is obvious that here the scale of Marxist and Socialist education worldwide must be exposed and the inescapable fact that the classroom and the lecture halls are filled with a tenured destructive malevolent evil.

Sorry for the late reply, had to get lunch.
I find it interesting that some regarded President Reagan as the do President Bush...maybe it's a conservative, common sense ideology they hate... (i'm talking of the people protesting in Europe, etc. I already know that our country is full of a bunch of idiots, I had to go to school with them)
I see your point about doing the opposite of what Europe does...my only concern is the times that we're living in. The more technology grows, the more I get nervous...we do not have room to deal with the likes of n. korea and iraq, etc... on the flip side, I fear that we do not have room to deal with them...
To: notyourregularhandle
Dang Hippies! Well somebody's got to say it. One thing that bugs me is we saved their butts in World War II and look how they turn out against us. I sure hope the average Joe Englishman, Frenchman, German, etc. are not in league with these people. Then again, who cares, we need to do what we need to do in order to protect ourselves.

IMHO.I strongly agree with everything you said, THAT'S WHY RECENT DEVELOPMENTS have made me nervous... American NATIONALISM is almost non-existant!!! (except of course for the little pockets like FR...) Has college and the liberal media warped my mind? Or am I seeing a different nation than I watched/heard about in the early 1900's...
To: dfwgator
How many million in Europe, DIDN'T protest? Great question, and it raises the difference between leftist causes vs. those of our side. At least as it relates to our own domestic version of the "peace" issue.
If anyone out there is shocked by the large numbers, just keep one thing in mind: if this anti-war, anti-America sentiment is so compelling, then why is the Presidency and Congress run by Republicans?
The left is great at putting people on the street. But when push comes to shove, they are far smaller than Dan, Peter, and Tom would have you believe.

Who hates us more ? Our allies or our enemies ?Exactly, ...it is a shame we even have to ask...I know that everyone always hates the "one on top", but the lack of respect shown towards America makes me sick...
To: notyourregularhandle
Well looking at the picture of the london protest, that ISN'T 750,000 people, they would look more like 200-300k people.
BTW most of the world supported Chamberland and not Churchill in the 30's and came to reget it. Do what's right not what's expedient.
