ALERT! FBI looking for truck that passed through Colorado!
9 News Denver ^ | 2-14-03 | Chris Vanderveen

DENVER - Concern among members of the FBI’s Joint Terrorist Task Force has surfaced in Colorado. A semi-truck driving through the state on Thursday afternoon apparently triggered a nationwide alert going out to law enforcement agencies across the state Friday night.

Only a few specifics of the alert were released. Apparently, it stems from what happened at a Sinclair gas station in Byers around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Byers is about 40 miles east of Denver on I-70.

Two men described as Middle Eastern in an 18-wheeler with a white tractor truck apparently tried to put unleaded gasoline into the truck. An attendant advised them it would not work and told them they needed to use diesel.

The men fueled up with the correct gas, paid in cash and left on Highway 36, which would connect them to I-80 in northeastern Colorado.

The truck has a Quebec, Canada, license plate number RS7-116. The name on the truck is Real Transport.

Authorities ran a check on the license plate and said it was clear, but it does not have a current registration.

The FBI sent out the alert shortly before 5 p.m. Friday. It advises law enforcement officers that if the semi is contacted to identify the occupants and determine if there is a current registration available.

If the FBI has any other reason to be worried about the semi, it's not saying.

There’s no confirmation that this is tied into any possible terrorism, but with the country on high alert, no one wants to take any chances.

And note that this incident occurs shortly after the FBI issued the BOLO for the al-Qaeda operative they feared had entered the country last week (can't think of his name at the moment). IIRC from the newscasts, there was speculation that he was here to coordinate/authorize an attack.

Great. Now we'll have roadblocks on I-80, where little old ladies in cadillacs and 20 something women taking their kids to soccer get pulled over, while middle eastern men in semi-trucks get waved through so that the Feds aren't guilty of 'profiling'.

INTERPOL.int: "WANTED"

Seems as if the truck has been in the USA for at least a year.

Or at least the plate has been.

"Highway 36 makes a straight shot from Denver to St. Joseph, Missouri, to Hannibal, Missouri, to Indianapolis."

Thanks for giving them that route. I'm moving.

"Americans are just too danged friendly. If I saw a couple of ragheads filling up a diesel powered truck with unleaded gasoline, I wouldn't say a word. At least not to them. If these yahoos stay on the interstate system then they will soon be found."

I hope they at least put some unleaded gas in their tank -- that would make them easier to find.

Either that, or the FBI would pass them.

My guess is that the truck probably has already got to wherever it was going too. I also noticed the main-stream media is not picking up on this in a big way --- which they should be. Don't want to panic people -- now that the duct tape and plastic wrap is all sold out. Prioritize, you know. Gotta keep showing those "peace" rallies. (/sarcasm off)

Well Interstate 29 starts in Winnipeg, goes south through the Dakotas and Along the eastern edge of Nebraska

Actually the western edge of Iowa. It is not in Nebraska. It also connects with I-80 at Council Bluffs, IA. I-80 of course would take you right into New York City or even closer, Chicago.

I wonder what they were wearing? Maybe the attendant looked out and saw two Middle Eastern men in hawaiian shirts, shorts and floppy sandals in the bitter cold. "Hmmm, that's odd...and they're putting unleaded gas into their tank. I'd better go help them out."

Or maybe they were dressed like preppies driving a big rig. Or maybe they had turbans on. Nothing would surprise me. I'm getting a vision of Dr. Evil in his trucker hat talking to Goldmember.

Ummm....no. That'd be I-76. I-80 doesn't go into Colorado. Nor, to the best of my knowledge, does U.S. 36 intersect with I-80.

Correct, although -76 does intersect I-80 just past the CO-NE line. I seem to recall that -76 was once called I-80 South, back when the Interstates and I were young.

Highway 36 is also 1/4 mile away from my home.

I will trust you then, to not let them get away.

HEH! If I knew about it when it happened, we wouldn't have had to worry about any alerts.

Yes, that's him--Mr. Kahn. That went out over the weekend, I think; and then by Thursday, that truck was on the move.

BTW, someone reminded us recently that these guys like to go back and get targets they missed.

It's a pretty safe bet that the unexpected grounding of all aircraft on 9/11 prevented some other attacks. We know that they've previously planned targets like the Sears Building and the Seattle Space Needle, as well as Disney World; and Atta was spotted checking out a nuclear power plant in Tennessee. With security so tight in NYC and DC, I think people in areas that we know they've planned to hit ought to be extra vigilant.

While I would expect them to save a nuke for a particularly "valuable" target, they are probably planning more than one kind of attack in more areas than one. JMO.

What's funny, is that I've seen truckers with turbans. They were Sikhs, though. Only in California.
