I know the pro-druggies (who I think have seriously impeded our fight against Colombian Marxists) will get hysterical at this thought, but this is not about drugs. Drugs are a major source of income'to FARC, but so is extortion of oil companies and local governments (teachers weren't paid for years in certain districts, because FARC had stolen the money), kidnapping, etc.
Druggies and libertarians should quit obsessing on their favorite topic and consider what is really happening to the people of Colombia at the hands of Marxist terrorists.

Could be Columbia, MO. I've heard there's quite a few muslims there and it's a college town--U of M.
Missouri is the only place I've been where I could drive from Lebanon to Mexico and California in one day.

I've seen that used quite a few times here.
The newest one I like is "Libertarian Church Ladies".

They can't do anything worse than they already do!

Later info: 1 American and 1 Columbian dead, 3 Americans feared captured by rebels.
Details on this thread.

Druggies and libertarians should quit obsessing on their favorite topic and consider what is really happening to the people of Colombia at the hands of Marxist terrorists. If you want to go fight Marxists there, please go right ahead. But this question is separate from the WOD. You can kill Marxists without prosecuting a prohibition in this country, and on the flip side, the local JBTs kicking down doors in my neighborhood doesn't make Colombia any safer from Marxist terrorists.

Kill them Colombian emigre friends of mine say most people in Colombia would have no problem with the Americans landing in force and doing JUST THAT
They would consider it a rescue

Older LINK OF INTEREST:
FOX NEWS.com (AP): "PLANE CARRYING FOUR AMERICANS CRASHES IN COLUMBIA" (ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Cessna was flying from Bogota to the Florencia area, 235 miles to the south, when radio contact was lost eight minutes before landing, Colombia's Civil Aviation agency said. There were four Americans and one Colombian aboard the plane, according to the agency. A Colombian official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press there were reports Colombian army troops found no one on board the wreckage, and that it was feared they had been taken by rebels. Other officials suggested those aboard the Cessna may be hiding, if they survived the crash, to avoid capture by the rebels.") (February 13, 2003)

Just stop "providing" assistance and then leave everyone alone. Alrignt. You get rid of Welfare and I'll support legalizing drugs. And you can wish for a pony while you are at it.

but if heroin was legalized tomorrow it wouldn't make me want to take it any more than I do now. I ain't worried about you. I'm worried about the sponges who want to get a government check so they can get stoned.

But this question is separate from the WOD. Okay, so why don't you druggies treat it as separate? Colombia has major problems. The fact that you won't be able to get your favorite high is not among them.

You won't find any libertarians supporting the handing out of government checks.
To: coloradan
And you won't find anyone supporting the legalization of drugs while we have a Welfare state. It's suicide.

Okay, so why don't you druggies treat it as separate? I did treat it as separate.
Colombia has major problems.
I acknowledge that. Some, not all, of the problems may be traced to the WO(s)D here. For the rest, there's military intervention. As I already said, if you want to kill Marxists, go right ahead.
The fact that you won't be able to get your favorite high is not among them.
This is simply a personal attack, impugning that I use illegal drugs. In fact, I don't use illegal drugs and resent the implication that I do. Since the admins here have been pulling interesting WOD-related threads "due to flame wars" I'm pinging them to your reply, rather than getting in a flame war with you.
To: AppyPappy
On the other hand, the WO(s)D is murder. One of the last American planes to crash in Latin America was over Peru, full of American missionaries, shot down by drug warriors. There were several deaths there, including an infant.

We spend more in fighting the war on drugs than it would cost to buy it for the losers and pay for their welfare - many times over, so this arguement just doesn't cut it. We should take all of the eyes and equipment and personnel now spent on prosecuting this pollyanna war on drugs and use about half of it for Homeland defense. Watch the borders for terrorists, not drugs. The guy cracking out doesn't threaten my family so much as fanatic Islamisist murderers.
