I came to the conclusion that liberalism is a mental illness about four years ago. This conclusion stems from reading a book on Attention Deficiet Disorder written by a NY neurologist. He wrote that how the brain functions is actually affected by what we think. If one constantly entertains depressing thoughts, the neuro-pathways in the person's brain will actually change, so how one's brain is wired is affected by the thoughts they think, and even brain chemistry is affected by thoughts we entertain, such that depressing thoughts can lead to chronic depression. I asked a friend of mine who received a Ph.D. in behavioral psychology from Stanford whether this is theory is accepted among practitioners, and she said, "Yes, this type of theory of brain function is well-accepted and is frequently referred to in research journals."
So, if what one thinks actually makes changes in one's brain chemistry and brain structure, then certainly liberalism, with its worldview of surrender of self-determination and dependence on government, chronic vicitimization mentality, and denial of absolute values, can lead to mental illness.

Lots of people need help with the tragic disease called liberalism.

I definitely agree that liberalism is a form of mental illness. However, I also believe that liberalism is a sign of immaturity and "arrested development". I think that lots of people, myself included, tend towards liberalism (but the true classic liberalism...not what liberalism has become which is fascism) when we are young but as we grow and mature and take on more and more responsibilities, we acquire more common sense and hopefully more wisdom and we become more conservative with age. It really and truely frightens me when I see old "liberals". These people should really know better and its scary that they don't.

Have you ever noticed that liberals LOOK different from conservatives? There are some gray areas but in some cases you can just tell by looking at someone if they are liberals or conservatives.

Definitely a keeper, this one :-)
Thanks!

You know, when it sounds right, it is right. At least in my Constitutional world. In the liberal world the brain function changes that have occured due to years of faulty thought process stunt the interconnect between the ears and the brain. The scriptures talk about liberals when it tell us of those having eyes that cannot see, and ears that cannot hear. They are not talking about physical handicap, but a mental handicap brought about by just what your thread is focused on, and it has a drastic effect on a persons ability to deal in reality.

It's true that liberals have a "Certain Look" about them. But I have also found another sure way to identify Libs. Anyone driving one of those new Volkswagon Bugs is guilty! At one time, I actually started to believe that those cars were sold new with a Gore Lieberman sticker affixed to the rear bumper.

I have a friend who has a Bug. She's totally apolitical.

Just a little early morning brevity! Why, some of my best friends drive Volkswagons.

Excellent! Great advice for liberals.
I have a suspicion that a couple of these steps can be eliminated or shortened by learning to trust the free market. That applies not only to economics, but also morality. Liberals I've talked to really look at most people -- at least most Americans -- as being very racist, sexist and homophobic, and they think that these flaws must be corrected through the courts.
If liberals could learn to trust people more and realize that people will best figure out how to handle their own money and how to get along with people different than them, they would soon jetison their liberal beliefs.
