Can anyone describe the correct way to seal a house from chemical or biological attack using duct tape and plastic sheets?

Just use one of these. Put on on your head then pull it down to your toes. Instant protection and it can also be buried in it if necessary.

I'm assuming that a chemical or biological attack would come without any warning. There would not be enough time to escape to a bed & breakfast in a rural area.

Bet you're glad you asked!!!....seriously, you're only supposed to "prepare" ONE room for a temporary stay, maybe 2 - 5 hours....depending upon how much oxygen gets used...(in other words....preparing a room is a crapshoot.)

Sorry. We can't give you an answer. This whole thing is a test of the Darwin principle. If you're smart enough to use plastic sheeting and duct tape, you get to survive. If you can't figure it out, get out of the gene pool..

I think we can coin a new term now:
Duct Tape Hat Alert
To: Redcloak
Non-smoking

Am I the only person who has not bought plastic sheeting. I am building a shed and want to get a moisture barrier. I hope the lemmings haven't bought it all!

I think they make left handed duct tape ;)

Just don't make the mistake of fully wrapping the house airtight, perfectly sealed and then realize you are on the outside....

if there is no warning, then you won't know to seal up the house, will you. and if you have any warning, then you have enough time to get in the car, turn off the heater and close the vents, and drive away.
i actually expect that there will be a few swine flu vaccine moments, where people who have sealed themselves in rooms and then suffocated.

Well, the FIRST thing you should do is to go get a hepa filter, some ducting, a ducting fan, and some wide (like dryer hoses) hose.
You really need to get a good filtration air intake system put into a window and sealed BEFORE making your safe room.
That is if you want it to last longer than 24 hours or so without suffocation.

In Israel they have "safe rooms". The trick to installing the plastic over a window is to put a strip of duct tape on the wall covering all 4 sides of the window.
Then use another piece of tape to tape the plastic to the duct tape itself.
This will hold up very well compared to trying to tape the plastic to the wall using one piece of tape.
Plastic comes in different thickness. The size in the middle #4 ? should work well.

Assuming such a thing happens, it won't occur where there are houses, and everyone lives on at least an acre!
