Backing down from a threat he issued earlier this week, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) said Thursday the chamber would have its full Presidents Day recess next week.

The Estrada nomination is not dust. He will be voted up or down by the Senate, just later then we would have hoped for. I don't for one second believe that George Bush will abandon Estrada. He has to take a stand, and this is the place.

CNN Crossfire host Robert Novak stated on "Inside Politics" that the underlying reason for this recess was that Congress wants to get out of Washington due to "wives pressure" and "fear of impending terrorist attack" Shouldn't that have given Frist more leverage to force the RATs to allow a vote? I'd be very disappointed if the Republican senators are greater cowards than the RAT senators.

If the Pubbies can't get their troops to respond, the Rats could require a cloture vore which they would lose. The fact that one cloture vote has been held and lost does nothing to prevent a new cloture vote later.

The dems are not gaining anything from the filibuster. Actually, from the Hispanic people who called Rush today, the Hispanic community is totally put out over the way the dems are handling Estrada.
Frist may have some indication that the fight is already over because a lot of dems are going to be jumping ship. I'd hold my opinion until we find out what Frist is up to.
Frist may be wanting members to go home and deal with the onslaught of Hispanic voters' telephone calls; and they may just change their minds on how they should vote - especially those members who are coming up for reelection.

Look at this in another way. The Rats are taking a lot of heat over the filibuster. We have phoned, e-mailed and faxed our disgust, and will continue to do so, recess or not.
I think this is a good way to keep the heat up and do some work on those Democrats who are afraid of the filibuster.
Let's see how it plays before we call Frist a wimp.

Congress wants to get out of Washington due to "wives pressure" and "fear of impending terrorist attack" I glad we have brave, dedicated people keeping the country safe.....then we have politicians.

I hope he is being slick, but on the face it looks like he's pulling a Lott. If that is true, he is a coward as well.

This does not end the filibuster. This is not a cave. The Dems will continue the filibuster upon return from recess. The longer this drags on, the worse it is going to be for the RATS. Hold tight, keep calling this fence straddlers, call your local talk shows!

Darn if they don't get time off. What they worked 3 weeks of the last 3 months? Like I said on another thread who are the 2 GOP'ers that made this happen?

Actually, I think it was. There were too many Republicans willing to cave just to get the time off. I suspect Sen. Frist will be stiffening some spines with his right boot now.

Remember the chant, Frist was going to move heaven and earth???? He has failed to move the senate. War is imminent, the senate is being obstructed and Frist allows everyone a vacation. Frist has really got a handle on this political thing.

Thanks for your comments!
ALL -- Send the RATs back to their States and let the Hispanics get their shot at them.
Having them stay in D.C. is not going to change a thing. If you want to do something make sure you contact your Senator when they get home and give them your thoughts on the DemocRATs despicable behavior.
For anyone's information, this is not a formal fililbuster as they are still conducting Senate business. According to Brit's comments, the RATS are threatening to filibuster but not in a full fledge filibuster!
